The U.S. Census Bureau did not include a separate count of LGBTQ Americans in its proposal for the 2020 Census.

The category had been sought by gay rights advocates.

The bureau counts Americans according to race, gender and other characteristics. Its proposal submitted to Congress this week did not have a separate category for LGBTQ.

A Census Bureau spokesman told The Washington Times that they had been asked by members of Congress to include the questions, and had been studying it — but determined there was no "federal need" for that information to be collected.

Asking the wrong person if they are gay could have unintended consequences.

They should give them an "other" category where they can write in their perceived identity. That way we can get a better idea of just how many batshit insane unhinged loons there are in the country.

We should include it. Then, we can dispel this myth that gays are a significant part of the population.

My thought as well. Not that I'm terribly interested in dispelling anything regarding gays, but I'd like to see the numbers of self-acknowledged.

There isn't a federal need to collect that information, good job Census Bureau.

Why waste time, money and energy on this? Why does the LGBTQFDXYZ community have this compulsion to tell everyone about their personal life?

Might as well include categories for all behaviours such as adulterers, swingers, fornication, etc if you create that category. Everybody to their own but don't seek special protection and recognition for a behaviour.

They might underreport due to fears of being put in camps.

And Rex will only bark at any census taker.

But hey, don't be fooled by the mustache and bulge in my pants, nor the blonde hair and blue eyes, I'm a Polynesian Islander woman damnit!

Well at 2% that is still over 6 million people, not huge but also not an insignificant number.

Because they want to know where they stand.

They have no idea how many gays are out there.

I don't want to know.

The only thing the Census Bureau needs to know is how many people reside at a given residence. Nothing else. That's the sole responsibility given to it by the Constitution.

Toddy isn't going to like this.

He needs to be more worried about automation replacing his partner with a robot who won't PIIHB.

Sure, but I think measuring enduring traits like sex, race (although that's somewhat arbitrary), and DOB are fine.
