"If the president had his way," Kissinger growled to aides more than once, "there would be a nuclear war each week!" This may not have been an idle jest. The CIA's top Vietnam specialist, George Carver, reportedly said that in 1969, when the North Koreans shot down a US spy plane, "Nixon became incensed and ordered a tactical nuclear strike... The Joint Chiefs were alerted and asked to recommend targets, but Kissinger got on the phone to them. They agreed not to do anything until Nixon sobered up in the morning."

Jesus... That's an interesting bit of history there.

How about the Yom Kippur war?

quote:

SCOWCROFT: The switchboard just got a call from 10 Downing Street to inquire whether the president would be available for a call within 30 minutes from the prime minister. The subject would be the Middle East.

KISSINGER: Can we tell them no? When I talked to the president he was loaded.

Who can blame him though? The man had reasons to drink.

There was a Soviet missile base officer who pretty much stopped global nuclear war because he didn't trust his radar telling him that American attacks were about to hit, in complete subordination and disregard for standard protocol. Thank goodness for that.

Now that's scary. Especially with our reliance on detection equipment and the increased wireless hacking/tampering capabilities

F35s can supposedly infect entire closed network radar grids with viruses, imagine someone cutting comms and implementing a nuclear strike simulation. The sum of all fears

I guess at least the detection is so easy other radar stations wouldnt register an attack, subs would be the only issue, and those would be harder to affect by instagting non world powers

Yelchin had the "nuclear suitcase" in his hand in 1995 and was seconds away from ordering a strike on the USA

Which scares me more when he's tempted to nuke someone. I guess if and when he does the strategy is "Bring in Ivanka".

Unless it is backed up by Whitehouse tapes don't believe it. Kissinger is a notorious liar and loves to self aggrandize.
