South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has accepted President-elect Donald Trump's offer to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, NBC News reported on Wednesday, citing a source familiar with the transition process.

Haley, the daughter of immigrants from India, had backed Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz during the Republican battle for a White House nominee.

It's easy to understand when you realize that the South Carolina Lt. Gov was one of Trump's biggest surrogates in the SC Primary and has always wanted to be Governor.

Sadly this seems the only explanation that makes sense.

A win-win for both Nikki Haley and Henry McMaster.

I remember when Haley annihilated McMaster in the republican primary in the 2010 gubernatorial race. Henry McMaster will not be a great governor.

Simple. This adds to her credentials for her future run for senate or pres.
Trump is throwing bones to GOPe so that they will return the favor and pass his legislative agenda.

Good for Nikki if she wants this. Not sure why anyone is distressed.

She probably sees this, understandably, as a route to SecState or similar. Which there is a reasonable chance could come open a couple times in the next 4-8 years.

he is the Hillary Clinton of South Carolina. No one likes him but he still feels like he deserves to be governor based on his last name. I hate to lose Haley but she has a great opportunity to be the next president.

Nor did I - but this would explain it.

That is a good way of putting it. Hopefully he goes down in the 2018 primaries so we only have to deal with 2 years of his administration.

South Carolina under Nikki Haley has been sort of a bright spot of southern GOP politics. Hopefully, we can find that next rising star in 2018.

He seems like your typical, hayseed, career politician that you always see on multiple statewide ballots over 2 decades.

Put a potential rival/rising star that GOPe could hitch their wagon to in 2020 into the trump camp. Even if they wouldn't run her, it keeps her from being an outspoken opponent of his admin

Why not just withdraw from the UN and kick those MFers out of the US?

Haley should have never lobbied to take the flag down. And then smugly stand there smiling while it was lowered.

Not to mention I am still dealing with her administration allowing everyone's personal information to be stolen.

Get over it. It needed to come down. It is now down.

The soldiers monument is still there, and it is a way more appropriate tribute to those who fought and died for the Confederacy. It was actually put up in the time just after the war in 1879 and pays great tribute to the soldiers...not like the flag that was put up during the time of our parents while the Civil Rights Movement was raging.

But Trump is a sexist, racist xenophobe...how could he pick an Indian Woman to represent us to the UN?

The flag was a non-issue in SC until outside social warriors made it their favorite cause. And then the SC government led by Nimrata folded like a tent.

I was always proud of my state until it rolled over for the PC crowd. Now it is just Ohio with a beach.
