The owners of the NFL are reportedly considering a rule change that would make it mandatory for players to stand during the national anthem. A league spokesman said that the owners would discuss the potential change during a meeting next week, Dow Jones reported. In recent seasons, primarily black professional football players have knelt during the national anthem to protest racial inequality in the United States. The protests started after former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last year began kneeling during the anthem to protest police mistreatment of black Americans.

The fact that they have to even consider something like this shows you what kind of people (players) we're dealing with here.
Yet we, as a society, put these people on a pedestal; right next to the Kardashians.

What happens when cultural society is always trying to be drugged by liberal bullshite

This is ridiculous. Why force them? Just keep the pussies in the locker room until the Anthem is over. END OF DEBATE!
Forcing this route could bring some freedom of speech court cases that the nfl doesn't want.

NFL doesn't want to lose tax exemption status

Not tired yet Mr. President

They should just not play the anthem at sporting events. It's a ridiculous concept to begin with.

Freedom of speech doesn't apply to private employment, only government prosecution. Lawyers know they wouldn't have a case in court against the NFL if they passed this rule change.
All that'll happen is the liberals and SJW's will complain about it on TV and social media for a while until they find something new to be offended by.

They should have their anti-trust exemption removed.

Yeah, that will really bring out the team camaraderie for a team sport. You know there has to be players on the other side of this argument that despise what some of these kneelers are doing. If players don't want to keep their politics out of their professions then I don't see an upside for them, concerning a team sport.

Wrong.
If the anthem, celebrating and paying respect to the country and it's people, who provide the incredible wealth, community, and environment to hold such and event doesn't belong, then the event itself shouldn't happen.

It was my understanding that there is already a rule in place that they are not enforcing. But yea, adding specific financial consequences would add weight to enforcement.

Either the NFL bowed to Trump or the polling on kneeling is not good for the NFL.

I love football. But quite honestly I hope this whole thing leads to a players strike.
1. I think a lot of people would side with the owners. This isn't your typical strike where multi-millionaire players and multi-billionaire owners are fighting over who gets more money. The general public usually sees both parties as ridiculous in that scenario.
2. The majority of the people who would side AGAINST players are your football fans. Some multi-colored hair tu-tu wearing 27 year old loser with an art-history degree isn't watching NFL football to begin with. Same for the professional "coffee-shop blogger" in skinny jeans.
3. The players need the NFL FAR more than the owners need the players. The owners are all guys who made billions in other enterprises aside from the NFL. They're going to be ok. The players on the other hand have no job-skills which would allow them to make millions of dollars other than being exceptionally good at playing football. Couple that with the fact that these guys tend to have fiscal responsibility of a teenage girl with a rich step-father, and most would be flat broke within a year or two. They can't afford to stay on strike long.
