As Reuters explains, surveyors read a variety of political statements which Donald Trump made on the campaign trail to mixed groups of Republicans and Democrats. One group was told that each statement was made by Trump; the other omitted that important detail. In almost every case, Democrat support for the statement decreased when Trump’s name was attached, while Republican support increased.

Government-run health care is a prime example of this. When asked if government should take care of everyone, 68 percent of Democrats agreed. Only 33 percent of Republicans did the same. But when Trump’s name was thrown into the ring, both parties had a sudden change of heart. Democrats in particular exhibited a 20 percent drop in support for government-run health care.

It seems to me that this board is a great example of this phenomenon.

Actually, it would seem to me that the people who can least think for themselves are those who are hinged to every word that comes out of the MSM and propaganda box commonly referred to as the TV.

They are the fricking robots

Only those who cannot formulate reasons as to why they stand where they stand, only regurgitate talking points.

You realize that our current President is addicted to cable news and uses Fox and Friends as his initial source of info every morning.

A university did a similar experiment about this a while back. They recreated the Clinton/Trump debates verbatim with hired actors. The only difference is they had the female actor be Trump and the male actor be Clinton (again, they read from verbatim transcripts of the real debate).

It turns out that when Trump's message is espoused by a female, people on the left are more inclined to agree with it. People in the audience (at a liberal uni) agreed that "Trump" (the woman) won the debate.

If you want to bash on Trump, you have to do better than an outlet owned by an admitted hyper-leftist (Bezos).

WaPo is as 'fake news' as it gets.

You are stupid if you believe Trump relies on cable news as his source of information on anything important.

I once was glued to CNN, but still managed to wade through the dessemination of information to get to the truth?

Every single solitary media outlet has it's spin on the happenings of the day. Similarly, every single human has theirs as well. What doesnt change are the facts, and that's really what's important.

Trump is certainly not the first US President to be tuned into the news. Whether it's cable TV, or the newspaper, Presidents throughout time have been concerned with what the media writes. I certainly do not believe that Presidents get their information from the media however. They have daily briefings every morning for the important stuff, but they've also all tuned into the news, just like you, and me, and everyone else in this country remotely plugged into what's going on in the world today.

America accepting one of two hand-picked establishment candidates as President time after time, proves that fact.

Doesn't sound like an issue of thinking for themselves. It seems a bigger issue of bias and a desire to fit in to a specific group while railing against groups that are contrary, such as D's vs. R's.
