Health care experts in Great Britain are warning that obese people and smokers will be routinely refused operations all across Great Britain in the very near future. The latest case in point comes from North Yorkshire, where patients having a BMI of 30 or higher and smokers will be refused routine surgery for over a year for non-life-threatening conditions.

Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) stated:

The local system is under severe pressure. Hospitals are being warned they will not be paid for surgery if they carry out operations on obese patients who are not exempt from the policy. This work will help to ensure that we get the very best value from the NHS and not exceed our resources or risk the ability of the NHS being there when people really need it.

I'm against socialized medicine, but this policy doesn't bother me at all. We need more consequences for people who choose degeneracy.

I don't think people that are for socialized medicine in the U.S. have thought this through.

They think they can have healthcare like they are used to getting, plus it's free.

Nope.

she will use an incoherent definition of "rationing" that makes no logical sense given the conversation

The consequences should be that you pay more, not be denied service.

exactly

while this was framed poorly with "death panels", rationing is required for single payer systems

i think Japan has major issues b/c they don't ration, and they have only lasted this long b/c that's one of the healthiest cultures on earth. how long will our obese society be able to make it work?

Is there a system in the UK whereby these people (the obese, smokers, etc.) could purchase on their own some sort of supplemental policy that may provide coverage for such things, or is that not allowed under their system? I'm guessing, it's not.

rationing is great. We need more of it. I think making those who have poor life choices suffer is the way to go, if you are going to ration.

Will be claimed to be unfair to minorities.

Nice try but your SJW friends and the SJW side of your brain won't let this happen.

I am for 100 percent market based, but if we have to go to some form of single payer, then I am for a government major medical policy with no bells and whistles.

Then you can buy supplemental policies to cover basic healthcare, presciptions, etc.. These should be cheap because the government would backstop major claims and catastrophic illnesses.
