There are these new weather events caused by AGW! We shall call them hurricanes.
No words

I believe they said this is the strongest one to hit Puerto Rico in almost 100 years.

Imagine that, Puerto Rico had one this strong 100 years ago.

No they didn't.

This is the strongest hurricane on record to ever hit the Atlantic.

and accurate "records" go back about 100 years on a planet that has been a few million in its current configuration

on record

How far back are those records?

Oh, yeah.

The Earth's paleoclimatic history only goes back to the 1880s.

It looks to be about the same size, at least in terms of wind speeds.

So is the 12 year run without a major hurricane striking the US proof of global cooling?

What makes you think I'm in this thread to make a case for global warming?

If I were to argue for or against global warming, I certainly would us hurricane activity as only one metric - not the entirety of the argument.

Get the point? Plenty of hurricanes that were just as strong. It isn't like this one is significantly different than past strong hurricanes.

I think the point is that those others reached their peak strength in the carribean, not the Atlantic.

But if you're that upset about it, you should send an email to the authors of the research.

They are barely even changing their verbiage from when Katrina happened.

And then, we went a decade without shite.

And not a soul has any fricking idea how strong hurricanes way out in the Atlantic were prior to about 60 years ago....at best.

Lol...I'm not upset, just pointing out the news will always say the current storm is the worst because that generates ratings. No need to flip out and think we going to all die because the earth has supposedly warmed .8 degrees over the past 100 years

British billionaire and adventurer Sir Richard Branson will stay on his private Caribbean island, Necker, for the potentially devastating arrival of Hurricane Irma, the founder of the Virgin group of companies said on Tuesday.

quote:

Recalling seeing two powerful hurricanes, Earl and Otto, strike the British Virgin Islands in 2010, Branson said he had beheld nature "at its most ferocious."

Otto was barely a Category 1 and Earl was a 2/3 when it hit his island. He's in for a rude awakening.
