My hope for the voting process

With a couple of constitutional judges going into the USSC, what would be the chances of this being our opportunity to make it federal law to require government ID for voting? Is this too much to hope for in 4 years?

It needs to happen, hopefully its something that gets done in the next 2 years in time for 2018

Nope. I expect it if we get two new nonliberal judges on the court.

It basically is everywhere. Besides, there is sufficient evidence to prove it does more harm than good (by disenfranchising potential voters).

Sounds not only reasonable, but common sense. If you don't need a picture ID to exercise your Constitutional right to vote, you shouldn't need a picture ID to purchase or carry a firearm. What argument could the left come up with to counter that?

Such as what? That being said, I assume you are also against requiring and ID to purchase a firearm? If not, why not?

SCOTUS can't make this law, so it doesn't really matter who get's put on the court (and more than one conservative judge addition is nothing but speculation at this point, Ginsburg could live to be 100 [God I hope not]). Congress will have to make the law. Now they actually can because they have a POTUS that will sign it.

But the scotus needs to be receptive so it doesnt get ruled unconstitutional.

They've already held that some voter ID laws are ok. They have held that some are unconstitutional, I'll give you that though. The ones the have held unconstitutional would have have to be overturned in order to reimplement them by Congress or the States.
The case where they ruled that voter ID was constitutional (assuming it doesn't have a discriminatory purpose, which is why other have been struck down) is Crawford v. Marion County Election Board. The case was decided 6-3, so Kennedy and at least one of the mainstream libs on the court voted with the conservatives. I'd say they are already receptive to it.

Most states require a state-issued ID. Apparently it is difficult for the poorest classes of people (usually minorities, and usually democrats) to get one. Exactly why, I don't know.

If I had to guess it's because the voters you are talking about are here illegally.
