perfect example of today's world.

Asking what MLK has to do with the study of GOVERNMENT makes you a fricking clan member.

Is that what government does? Provide civil rights?

Do you think introducing young kids to racism and previous civil rights issues is the way to start learning about GOVERNMENT? I would have thought the 3 branches would be first....

I doubt he pissed his pants. It's more likely that it caught him off guard and before he could think it through he started a thread. That is not unique to this board or any other board.

MLK is fine. He'll figure it out.

OP, think about why MLK may be a decent choice for this textbook. Yes, the liberal signaling is likely one reason but it's not the only reason and hopefully isn't the best reason the publisher came up with.

How can you assume its liberal signaling? One of the singular most influential figures on U.S government policy in history... And also influenced the system in a very American way.

Luckily trends indicate that the OP's kids will rebel against him anyway

I did not piss my pants, it just struck me as a whole lot of the same crap she has been getting from the school she is in.....and this is a RELIGIOUS based school. Just concerning, and I don't feel like college is going to be any better... that's all

Next time take a breath. Assuming the worst and overreacting is no way to handle your child's education.

Well, even Liberty College is going to be OK with MLK for his work on civil rights though they won't like his extra marital affairs much.

You send your kid to any college other than a Liberty type place they are going to get exposed to all kinds of progressive ideologies without much balancing out with conservative ideals. That's just the way it is now.

Can you tell us the content of the book? Is it left wing ideology?

Seriously, Obama's Sec of Educ could have revised history/government books easily.

Like bitching about a statue of MLk being on a textbook about the American govnerment and the insidious brainwashing that is clearly going on here.

Your OP is better suited for a FW:FW:FW chain email from my grandmother, cajunangelle, rather than taking up space on this here esteemed Poli Board.

You triggered little snowflake

I didn't really mean to suggest that it is liberal signaling. I just addressed what he claimed it to be and offered that he look a bit deeper.

If I just blasted him and told him he was a fool that wouldn't be very useful.

It's a tactic used to effect change. It's much better face to face though. I probably didn't word it correctly or effectively here.

We could have done so much art work with that cover when I was in school, given two full semesters. Kids today lack imagination.

notice that picture is cut off at his waist. You can't see the rest of the statue of one of his side pieces blowing him.

I'm trying to figure out exactly how this photo is "indoctrinating your kid".

I got nothing.

Perhaps you are just looking for shite where there is none...that never happens here right?

Count your blessings. I'd rather have MLK's pic on a student's text book than Harriet Tubman's face on my $20 bills.

Did you ever do a search on Tubman pics? There are hundreds of them. None with her smiling. She didn't have no teefus.

Now would be a perfect learn-by-example moment for your child since you cracked the book open and actually read what the frick is inside it instead of automatically judging a book by its cover.

A black man? Wow. I'm terrified. Someone think of the children. We should sue! I am so sick of being persecuted for my white skin.
