Most of you here don't understand tactics regarding Syria.

First, using precision strikes has always been a projection of force. A strike from 100-500nm off of the coast with zero human intervention has always been either a preemptive strike or a shot across the bow.
This was a shot across the bow.
Second, the deployment of said weapons shows that Trump is drawing a line in the sand. He's not starting a war, he's setting a precedent.
Denying the use of drones and going straight to the tip of the spear is a message from Trump.
We know someone gassed those folks, if it was Assad or the Russians, he just forced Putins hand. If it was the rebels, (which I doubt at this point), the message was sent.
Regardless, this is tip of the spear stuff, not WarHawk WWIII stuff.
And this is coming from someone who hates Trump, but understands projection of power.
It's a little reminder from ol' Uncle Sam. We don't care for gassing. I'd bet 100% Mattis was the driving force behind this strike.
Trump did what he had to do here.

We're they launched from the Red Sea or from the Mediterranean?

I get what you are saying but how often do these things end with just a few cruise missles

what message? that if they attack civilians with chemical weapons, we'll help them by destroying their enemy?

I keep seeing people try to make this point. I honestly don't know how often the conflict ends at a middle strike. Do you?
I'm willing to bet most don't have any clue because those conflicts that ended with middle strikes get forgotten. It is only the ones that escalate that are remembered.

So, your resume regarding foreign policy and military action comes from a thorough browsing of the TD poli board.
Thanks for that amazing insight.

Quite often. Reagan & Clinton both did that kind of thing.

We can't allow gassing of civilians. Hell, we can't allow gassing of troops.
Clinton used Precision Strikes as well.
Understand that it doesn't mean war.
ITS A frickING PROJECTION OF POWER.
Plain and simple.

In response to attacks on Americans
See the difference here...

Not always.
Tomahawks were used in Bosnia and on Iraq by Clinton.
Not in response to an attack on Americans.
