Late last Friday afternoon, in a blatant “late news dump” to avoid making headlines about the Internal Revenue’s witch hunt against conservative non-profits, the IRS disclosed to Congress that five more of the IRS computers containing relevant records had mysteriously crashed. Those computers belonged to colleagues of Lois Lerner, whose conduct is at the center of the investigation.

quote:

First it was just Lerner’s computer that was affected, then those of her closest co-conspirators, then “no more than twenty” computers, and now an ever larger batch of burned out workstations.

quote:

Even more interesting, the IRS has apparently not yet shared this newest tidbit with Judge Emmet G. Sullivan

quote:

Some of the IRS emails, which miraculously survived long enough to be produced, expose that Ms. Lerner and her comrades also corruptly requested donor information from conservative charities for a “secret research project.” The IRS has also admitted illegally using and disclosing that information.

quote:

We broke the news last week that Lerner and the IRS wiped and destroyed her Blackberry and all its content even after the congressional investigation began. The IRS reluctantly disclosed that information only because Judge Emmet G. Sullivan didn’t accept the carefully crafted declarations in the agency’s first response. As we predicted—and thankfully for the American public—he pushed for more information. He required the IRS to submit additional declarations, answering even more specific questions. Had he not done so, we wouldn’t know Lerner and the IRS also destroyed her Blackberry. The IRS did not make any mention of her Blackberry in any of its many prior filings—much less in its initial sworn declarations.

quote:

While the agency continues to blame “computer crashes” for the now more than 20 people whose emails are “missing,” no IRS official has yet to identify when or how each computer crashed—much less why.

quote:

With the revelations of this last week, Lois Lerner and the IRS might as well be sitting on a ticking bomb . . . and it’s about to explode.

So how bad was the targeting to go to this extreme fro the coverup? Tip of the iceberg?

Who in the hell is destroying all these hard drives? This is such a blatant attempt at a cover-up, and, sadly, it may work, because the evidence of whatever happened may never be recovered.

I doubt seriously they're too worried about being prosecuted for destruction of evidence by Holder and his crew.

Hell, Holder is probably at the IRS right now with a sledgehammer.

If only the media were as interested in this story as Ray Rice, Joan Rivers, Robin Williams and the prince's pregnant wife we might actually have gotten to the bottom of this ordeal by now.

So what are we up to now? More than %25 HDD failure rate? All occurring around the same time frame. The odds of that happening are astounding. I challenge anyone to show me how this could be coincidence.

It has already been confirmed that all the emails are recoverable, the government just doesnt want to take the time to do it. When enough information comes out for a PR campaign it is time for a PAC to start buying air time to push for answers.

I don't think it is necessarily the targeting that is so bad. We can imagine the worst and I'm sure most of us already accept this as fact. I think this is about covering up the identities of who knew about it and narrowing the scope thus limiting the damage to the administration. You can already see hints of collusion between the IRS and the DOJ. Might there be strings of this web reaching across to other agencies? Probably.

What I find most disturbing is this so called "Secret Research Project" of illegally obtained conservative donor lists.

You also have to remember back where founders of groups were being investigated by every agency in the federal government. IRS, FBI, ATF, EPA, etc. That wasn't 2 people in Cincinnati, that came from the top...

I'm not at all confident this is true. Even if they were to make an attempt, I believe something will emerge as to why the data cannot be recovered. I agree with you that right now the strategy is to stonewall and delay, but the excuse of "its too hard" will not fly indefinitely and will eventually morph to "can't be done".

The system is designed to survive a nuke attack, it should survive. The just has to be the will of the people to get the information. There is a reason why this is not talked about on MSM...
