One of those things that make you go
You vote against a bill that would ban the application of FOREIGN LAW in your state courts???
The bill bans the application of FOREIGN LAWS in Montana courts.
The LAW of the LAND is the US and State CONSTITUTION... Nothing else!

Senate Bill 97, introduced by Keith Regier (R-Kalispell) bans the application of foreign law in Montana’s courts, with the debate particularly focused on Sharia Law, a form of Islamic law typically used in the Middle East.

“The courts have said that laws that single out certain religions violate the First Amendment,” Smith said, claiming that it was “peppered with anti-Muslim bigotry.”

Bills specifically targeting Sharia Law have passed in states such as North Carolina, Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, South Dakota, and Tennessee. The bill will now be passed on to Gov. Steve Bullock (D) for signature or veto.

Both sides are pretty shite-tastic here, the dipshit dems for voting against it as well as the low info repubs who thought it was needed.
Pointless posturing and wasted time by both sides.
NEWSFLASHP: no foreign law is enforceable in the good ole USA

We'll be fine. The two Muslims that live here aren't pushing Sharia Law through any time soon.

Ummm...not necessarily.
If we are talking about civil matters, it absolutely can (and does) apply in certain circumstances. Louisiana has an entire book in the Civil Code devoted to the rules on when it applies (La. C. C. Art. 3515 et seq)

When a culture stops supporting its values, it falls apart and become vulnerable to take over:
1. Stop teaching American History
2. Stop teaching Civics
3. Stop Pledge of Allegiance
4. Stop Prayer is schools
5. Pay for Contractors to fill in for a damaged and weakened Military

And bingo. If you read the law it's pretty broadly written, and could easily be construed to include more than just Sharia law. I would actually think many republicans would be against it, as "choice of law" is a huge bargaining chip in many foreign contracts (and by "foreign" that includes laws between the states as well, although I understand this is limited to outside the U.S.). This could easily end up being a prime example of the law of unintended consequences.
That said, I find it hard to believe that Sharia law has EVER BEEN or EVER WILL BE applied in this country, even without such laws.

I think it is already happening is areas in this Country, particularly in poverty areas. This is why the President's attention to poverty stricken such as our inner cities crumbling before our eyes is so important. It is already here.

I haven't read your link or excerpts, but conservative-leaning business folk, shipowners and the like have been using foreign choice-of-law clauses for decades and it's usually liberal plaintiffs types who fight it.
There are bodies of law dedicated to the application of foreign law and one principle is it can't violate US/state public policy. Sharia law does that all day long.
I'll read and follow up.
