My daughter was seriously considering Mizzou as an option. Her mom and dad and grandma and grandpa all graduated from Mizzou and grandpa still teaches there. They made little to no effort to recruit her seriously. She's now in an accelerated med school program.
There's systemic issues on the campus. They'll get it figured out or they won't.
This is a widespread college problem. Do you know why shitty for profit colleges once thrived and places like Phoenix and Southern New Hampshire are thriving today? They treat their students like customers and they have EXCELLENT customer service.
Colleges and universities do a really bad job at the customer service part of recruiting. Yes, its different than selling a chicken sandwich with a smile, but the prevalent attitude is that they should not have to sell to you - its a privilege for you to be speaking to them. And if you are a legacy - good luck getting any attention, as your daughter learned.
If one can ignore the three S's of colleges - size, sizzle and sports, they will learn that many times a smaller college is the best option for most students. Its a problem that the Northeast doesn't have that the South is eaten up with.

I laughed out loud at her on campus visit when a PowerPoint slide touted the "safe spaces" on campus. The presenter did not refer to the point on the slide, oddly enough.
Awesome

Missouri State is on the rise.

They are going to duck under 29,000 students in a year.

I suppose it could be worse than LSU's.....but it's unlikely.

Awesome. Maybe all those SJW will step up and pay the difference
You mean they will beg their parents, and or take out more student loans that they will never pay back.

Just like angry African Americans in a riot, Missouri essentially cannibalized their own hood with their antics, poor administration, lack of leadership and complete devotion to the SJW cause.
They deserve to feel the impact, outcome and backlash of poor decisions and lackluster management.

Can you please explain this a little more? I'd like to know just exactly what was being shown on the slide. Like, did they give actual building names and stuff to go if you're offended? This shite is just getting ridiculous. Looks like the market is correcting this problem though and hopefully, will continue to do so.

No Whites Allowed spaces.

It was on a slide about additional services offered to students. Counseling, student health, etc. It just listed safe spaces as another benefit to students. It used those exact words, though. Which was pretty tone deaf.

Two ways to look at their situation:
1. Either they misread their client base.
2. Or their admins don't give a shite and are intent on transforming the university into a SJW Mecca.

you really don't know what you are talking about

This is surprising to me, that the backlash is this long and real. 4,000 freshmen is small. Arkansas only has 27,000 students and last year's freshman class was over 5,000.
Missouri is our second biggest source of OOS students, behind Texas. I wonder if we'll pick up some of those opting out, or if it mainly OOS recruiting that has fallen off.

Arkansas is cheaper for top students in Missouri than Mizzou is. Lots of good students are making Fayetteville an option.

I partly hope for a halt in our growth to allow the campus infrastructure to catch up. We have a few buildings that should be taken out and replaced altogether, but because of the growth of the past decade, we haven't been able to consider it. As long as there is $ to be made, they won't cap enrollment, I guess. I never thought I'd see Fayetteville with 30,000 students, but it seems inevitable now.
I read the statement by the university through that lens and think it'll eventually level out and start growing again at Mizzou. The interim few years will let them streamline facilities and strengthen planning. Hopefully they'll really check their policies and educate their faculty on how to be less crazy.

Well, eventually yes.....I mean if you bring it down to 10k, and then 3k enroll, will they say they are "growing again"

Lol mizzou. Second rate school with a joke of a football program.

My co-workers daughter is finishing up the accelerated Med program. I'm told she absolutely loves it.
