Minorities don't learn from older white teachers

I can't relate to the students' complaints in this article.
They say they can't tell their problems to the teacher. I didn't tell my problems to my teachers. I wanted them to teach me.
They say that the older white teachers are more affluent. I didn't care how much money my teachers made. I just wanted them to know more about the subject than me. And in HS that was often not the case.

I don't get that either. To be honest, I never even really thought of my teachers as people with lives outside of school.
