Kinda sorta. But when aircraft are put on Alert status they are dedicated to a possible combat mission. So all the "other" aircraft are usually used to keep our pilots trained and proficient for combat operations. So these training missions do not have live munitions loaded on them, whereas the alert aircraft will be loaded with live munitions and ready to fly a combat mission when called upon.

Not really; some are more ready than others as in they're fully loaded with armaments while most aren't.

We have not moved to Alert status, but we are planning for the possibility according to the Chief of staff of the Air Force.

Alert birds (bombers with nukes) are SOP.

What are you trying to say here? Alert birds can be a multitude of combat and combat support aircraft. Not sure what SOP is...

I was talking about bombers only, not every aircraft in inventory

Sure sounds like lots of extra work and hassle for the work-horses of the military -- the enlisted ranks.

We salute them.

In my opinion they should always be on 24 hour alert status.

We practice generating aircraft for no-notice deployments or Global Response Force tasking's on a regular basis. If need be we can get our aircraft up and running fairly quickly. Putting aircraft on alert status just ensures we have dedicated assets ready to go "now" if needed. Our bases in South Korea practice generating war-ready aircraft VERY often.

I seen a lot of A-10s flying over Estonia 2 months ago. My Finnish friends had never seen that before even though they go to Estonia about once every 2 or 3 months. It's really nice to see our military flying again.

He's talking about nuclear triad stuff.

Back in the day, we had a number of silos in a short response readiness condition, as well as actually airborne BUFFs and boomers on station. The point was to deter/respond to either a preemptive first strike of the other side (Commies) or a decapitation strike.

Because of the sensitive handling of nuclear weapons, this is kind of a big deal.

But only when the nukes are flown across the continental US by accident

My first assignment as at a SAC base....loved it and the alert birds....BUFFs and 135s......yeah I'm old
