A defiant House Speaker Mike Johnson, facing growing threats to his speakership, said Tuesday he is not resigning and dismissed threats to his gavel as “absurd” after a second Republican member of Congress threatened to oust Johnson for his handling of legislation to send foreign aid to Ukraine and Israel.

After Republican Rep. Thomas Massie said he would co-sponsor an effort to oust Johnson from his job and called on him to resign, the Louisiana Republican described himself as a “wartime speaker” in challenging times.

“I am not resigning,” Johnson told reporters. “And it is, in my view, an absurd notion that someone would bring a vacate motion when we are simply here trying to do our jobs.”

Republican hardliners are growing angry at Johnson’s complex plan to advance billions of dollars in foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

Massie told Republican colleagues behind closed doors Tuesday morning that he will cosponsor the motion to vacate Johnson from his position.

Another neocon who wants to send other people's children to die in wars overseas.

I'm sitting here wondering if we can primary him next time. That realization when you grasp that you've voted for nothing but establishment... not good.

Dude's getting rolled over in every negotiation.

Bringing a motion to vacate right now makes no sense because you just don't have the luxury. But, Johnson is a complete failure.

Someone should ask him what he thinks his job is, because I don't think it's whatever he thinks it is.

These select few retards just need to go make their own damn party. How selfish and ridiculous is it to think that your little ole opinion, backed by barely anyone, supersedes what the majority think. MTG and her crew are clowns. They need to go away.

based on his performance so far, you can’t label him MAGA. Trump would have never approved the last budget and he would have closed the border which Johnson hasn’t used closing border as leverage for money for Ukraine.

The majority of elected Republicans' little ole opinion, backed by barely anyone, seems to supersede what the majority of VOTERS think, yet you have no issue with that.

What cracks me up is that no one will ever be good enough. There will always be an issue of enough significance that a Speaker will disagree with enough members to be hit with a motion to vacate. It will end when a dem has the Speakership. Our circular firing squad mentality is goofy but here we are, again.

Republicans asked for one thing, stop the massive flow of migrants like the law states and we will pass Ukraine aid. Dems said no and sat on their hands and blamed republicans, they allowed their pet project to falter on the beliefs they should always get everything they want and never negoitiate. Now Republicans folded and got nothing despite their own voters being 100% the aid.

Not sure if he will be truly MAGA, but where you go from here is Speaker Hakeem Jeffries.

Do you all think the Democrats are more likely to vote to save him or try to reach across the aisle to moderate Republicans and get Hakeem Jeffries into the Speakership?

According to Sen. J.D. Vance, this is all about passing the rule that locks the sanctions on Russia and prevents Trump from altering them in the future.
