I hate to say it but Ted Koppel accidentally spoke the truth to Sean Hannity when he called opinion media bad for America. It is. Partisan opinion media is what we get 24/7 from CNN, MSNBC, MSM, NYT, AP, WaPo, NPR, BBC, PBS, HuffPo, Politico, TIME, Newsweek, New Yorker, Rolling Stone, AARP, NEA, MoveOn (and other Soros organs) and myriad academia and celebrity figures from the Left. The Right has its lineup too. FOX, WSJ, Drudge, Breitbart, Ann Coulter, Town Hall, Savage, Horowitz, Limbaugh, Blaze, NRA, OAN, FBN, WND, Red State, Newsmax and myriad op/ed writers and media personalities.

The game seems to be: keep everybody stirred up - to hell with the peace and unity of our people. How close to a civil war can they be pushed?

It might be on that track now. We all need to step away from the abyss

It's why places like CNN have "BREAKING NEWS" scrolling on the bottom pretty much 24/7

I blame all of this on the rise of social media and the thought that "my opinion matters so now you're going to hear it".

It's too late, the media is too invested in Mass manipulation. They'll never give up that power freely. Even after they've been exposed. They'll continue until they're forcibly stopped. That is to say when people stop paying attention to them and the money dries up.

These organizations are in the business of making money. Their business models seem to be working for them, why should they change?

Fox was the first to take an aggressive stance with opinion shows (Beck/Hannity/Oreilly), and they gained a loyal following and made tons of money.

All the other news networks saw a market for the same thing on the left so they are doing it, only mixing it in more with their news anchors.

Bottom line is no one just reports news anymore. There's always someone right there to tell you what you should think about it.

FIFY

The media is definitely trying to manipulate people by passing off opinion as fact. A large part of it is the 24 hour news cycle and that there are news channels dedicated to showing "the news", yet there isn't always (hardly ever) enough actual news to fill up the space with just reporting. The dead air is filled with opinion panels where credentialed people fill time by giving their (biased) opinions about the news.

Didn't hardball with Chris Matthews start before this? I know CNN had a 16 year head start on Fox.

Why isn't Good Morning America on that list? Are you saying it's not partisan opinion media? George is literally in Hillary's backpocket with his donations and his rants on GMA are on the verge of a witch hunt.

I'm gonna have to disagree

Fox was the only one to call the other side on their BS

But 60 minutes, Dateline, 20/20 were all just 'extended news' topics that certain journalists wanted to push their opinions of. Fox then showed there was another side to those views, and the masses flocked over. Fox couldn't have gotten the masses to flock, if the people didn't believe that they had been sold a bill of goods for decades

What he^ said. Tell me which right-wing news outlet was involved in anything this scandalous and I'll admit I'm biased. I'm no fan of Hannity/OReilly, but they didn't stoop to this level of chicanery.

You are right. I just kind of had it, The Today Show, the "comedy news" programs, and that ilk lumped up in my mind as MSM. Partisan strong Left.
