Sen. John McCain's tumor is one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. This kind of tumor, formally known as a glioblastoma multiforme, is aggressive and sneaky. It puts out microscopic roots that go deeper into brain tissue

quote:

The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4 percent.

His odd behavior over the last months could mean the roots have already gotten into his language, motor and other brain functions

Man that sucks. But McCain's behavior hasn't seemed that different than usual, especially since he's already getting in there in age.

Yea, it basically has roots that goes deep into the brain making it hard if not impossible to remove. This really sucks gang. McCain is a genuine American hero and patriot. I think we were all taken back by his questions in committee and statements. Obviously this cancer has had some impact on his cognitive ability. Sounds like a death sentence.

I have mixed feelings about McCain.

Respect his service and what he went through.

He has been damaging to the Rep for years.

I don't understand people like him. I'm out grinding every day and retirement sounds so great when I can shut it down. These politicians are multimillionaires and won't quit.

What is wrong with them?

He seems like the type that would be in that 4%. Regardless of politics, no doubt the man is tough as nails.

If you look at the data I bet that the 4% that do survive that long are females.

Aiding the enemy because he was an incapable pilot piggybacking off his father qualifies him as a hero?

I think the Republican guv can appoint someone to fill the seat, until the next statewide election in '18. Arizona law requires it come from the same party

He definitely seemed off during the comey testimony and gorsuch confirmation hearings. His questions were all over the place, making no sense, and something seemed off about his facial expressions. I chalked it up to early onset dementia, so brain tumor makes perfect sense. Having seen the signs for so many months, I can almost assure you he will not survive this.

Cancer cells are pretty fascinating. Basically, they are immortal. Most of the cancer cell lines used in research today were harvested from cancer patients who died in the 50's and 60's. Kind of strange to think that someone who died of cancer nearly 70 years ago lives on as cancer cells.

I had the opportunity to work with breast cancer cells a few semesters ago. It was pretty neat watching them go into survival mode when treated with drugs. It gave me a fresh perspective on why they are so hard to kill.

If McCain cares about his constituents in Arizona, he will resign now to end the uncertainty and make sure Arizona has full time representation that's in perfect health.

I believe he will, but I think he deserves a bit of time to process everything first, specifically the medical issues at hand.

I mean he's 81. His 5 year survival rate as a healthy 81 year old (though assuredly higher than 4%) I'd assume isn't great. The life expectancy for someone who's made it to his age is on average, 7 more years.

Cindy McCain is an heir to an Anheier-Busch distributorship that puts her net worth over $100 million. McCain is worth $10 million himself.

He is 80.

These people are so bizarre.

The second I could hit retirement money I'm floating on a lake the rest of my life.

These weirdos stay in politics.

far from accurate. That's the average. McCain may have much better chance or even worse. He's had a pretty good life and a lot of years. Don't mean that in a cruel way.

Random tangent. Life expectancy is kinda paradoxical. Isn't it? The longer you live, the longer the expectancy.

If I ever get frick you money like that, I'm sure as shite not spending one day in a petty and backstabbing swamp like DC. I guess some people just can't quit politics. It's like an addiction to them.
