there was an actual news story (someone posted it here) Obama signed the waiver that Mattis needed. I about fell over that Obama did this.

OP is wrong, he wasn't confirmed, he just got approved by the armed services committee. He can't get confirmed til after Trump is in office, which he will push to have done Friday.

Josh, I'm surprised at you. Your title is incorrect. It was the senate committee's vote, not the senate. He's not confirmed until the full senate votes on the nomination.

I'm not even sure that needs to happen. Simply avoiding the adjustment of standards will likely work that out well enough.
