I'm all for robotic progress. McDonalds workers wanting 15 bucks an hour to (rudely) give you a wrong order? Let a touchpad take their place.

All day long baby! Bring in the robotic overlords. If you've ever tried to order urban fast food, you can't help but agree.

It isn't progress if it kills the job market.

How about figuring out how to get people on welfare to stop reproducing then we can discuss this robot utopia you desire.

Then basically we have to directly sabotage any and every technology being currently built. We're a little over 2 decades before the estimated arrival of the Singularity. We don't know what will happen then, but one thing is for certain: humanity's jobs will be focused almost solely on where creativity is required by the time it comes to fruition. No more drivers, no more factory workers, no more people working at call centers, no more janitors, no more fast food employees or garbage collectors.

Basically, we're doomed to be a welfare state as the whole world is concerned, and soon, especially with the driverless car being a reality. The only thing we can do is sabotage companies around the world through the government (i.e.: extreme communism or fascism) nuclear war, or an extreme increase terrorist like activities to stifle technology's growth. Other than that, the progress to this is completely inevitable.

Not true about china

Right. China wouldn't be at the top of my list of countries who can perform well in the sciences. It's well known they attend national conferenes (like ACS, SNMMI, WMIC, etc) to take ideas back to China and have their slave labor bang out some shitty research. We've had enough MD's and professors stroll through our lab as visiting scholars to know Just how shitty things are their. Remember, ccitizens of other countries flock to the U.S. for postgraduate education and many of the best stay here where they can get good jobs.

That's a damn good article... here's betting even when computers reach that level of intelligence, they will play dumb ,

until they have the infrastructure around it to mass produce / replicate itself before we realize it would regard human life much like a human regards the life of an ant.

Add: Revelations discusses "man worshipped the created rather than the CREATOR"....
Many people think 'The Beast' is a human....it is not....The Beast is ASI

REV also says "man will seek death, but not find it"....that is another feature of ASI. We are already close to reversing the effects of aging which is 1 of 1st steps

Oh, wow. Cell phones, blue ray players, Magic Jack, Mini Coopers, shitty tennis shoes. Better look out, they'll beat us to Mars if we don't do something

Yeah the automation stuff will radically alter the world. Won't need so many people. The automating in the farming is crazy. Machines that can crawl the grape vines and can tell when each individual grape needs to be picked. I saw one for strawberries too. Lots of people out of work when these start to go into production.
