After the bill was released on Thursday and he huddled with his Republican colleagues, Rubio said his demands were met, and Florida’s junior senator was ready to announce his support. “The sooner we get to the floor and start the debate on the floor in front of the American people, the better off it’s going to be for everyone,” Rubio said.

quote:

Rubio said President Donald Trump’s involvement will be critical in making sure the bill gets enough votes. “The bully pulpit of the presidency is critical,” Rubio said. “When he returns from France it’s my understanding that he intends to engage significantly on that topic.”

Marco is 1000% correct in the sooner this gets to the floor of the Senate and the debate begins IN FRONT OF the American people the sooner we can begin progress. Again Marco is correct in Trump is going to have to push for reforms and not sit idly on the sidelines playing both sides. In the coming days look for Marco to take the lead on repeal and replace.

That's even worse. He's literally a paid shill for an aborted presidential candidate.

I don't believe forcing the discourse into the public view is classified as "caving."

He's not forcing jack shite. If it comes to a vote, McConnell will open the floor the the minimum time necessary and do everything he can to stifle the unlimited amendment process.

And Rubio will vote for it, no matter what changes.

Because he's a bitch, and always will be.

Objectively yeah. The only way he can get it passed is to basically halt the amendment process. Not that I like the bill or have even bothered to read about it, but that's strategy when you've got such a narrow margin.

And agreed, Rubio will vote for it no matter what, because the nuance required to explain a No vote for his next presidential run is not something you can communicate in a sound bite.

The rules of reconciliation allow for unlimited amendments. If he halts the process, he'll be breaking reconciliation rules. Then we see what the parliamentarian says.

Not honestly sure it will come to a vote at this point - already 2 Republicans have said they won't vote to bring it forward, and Murkowski isn't thrilled (plus Heller, etc).

But let's not hold Rubio up as some lion when he's a spineless piece of shite who will do whatever Trump and McConnell tell him to. Every time.

He actually has one of the most conservative voting records in the Senate.

The only vote he's taken that has gone against Trump's position was imposing sanctions on Russia. That was a 98-0 vote.

He's a spineless, worthless, joke.

This is how Rubio has always struck me. Like the guy who runs when your group of friends gets jumped.

The bill is dead. This is the only reason he came out like this. He knows his "vote" won't matter but he'll get some points for saying he would vote for it. He's got some cover here. Calculated move.
