So do you not understand the issue, or do you not care about your fellow Americans?
I understand your empathy for those less fortunate, but you obviously have no empathy for those who bear the brunt of the mess caused by Obamacare. For me, under Obamacare:

Monthly premium: $2,279
Personal deductible: $5,000
Family deductible:$12,700
Out-of-pocket maximum: $18,700
Co-pay, after deductible: 30%

Before Obamacare, my family insurance cost was about $550 a month, with a $1,000 personal deductible, $2,500 family deductible, $7,500 out-of-pocket max annual, and a 20% co-pay.

So, while I understand your empathy, your lack of pure frustration that many of us feel who, like me, have had to absorb HUGE cost increases as we face the end of a gun barrel with the threat of the IRS seizing our property if we refuse to purchase insurance, tells me all I need to know about you.

If you're here just to troll, fine. You're a troll. But, if you're here to change minds and sell a position, then you need to understand, emphasize with and support those who actually pay the bill that allows Obamacare to exist.

This is actually not a bad idea. Younger people in great shape don't want to buy outlandish healthcare policies.

The problem is the insurance companies wasn't these people, who don't use their coverage very much to join the pool with those that do get sick so they can offset each other.

That's called socialism and that's the problem we have with it! It is not insurance if you are forcing people who don't accrue the costs to pay for people with pre-existing conditions who didn't have the forethought to get coverage when they didn't necessarily need it. I believe your end game here is a single payer system, so just call it that and be done with it. Don't pick apart our attempt to return to an economically efficient system based on individual responsibilty.

I'd love to fix the ACA for those in a situation similar to yours. But let's do it in a way that minimizes harm (or causes none) among the least fortunate of us.

I do not care enough about people who don't take care themselves to cheat my family out of money in order to finance poverty, if that's what you're getting at! The only problem with healthcare and it's costs prior to Obamacare were 1. The fact that we can't deny people at the ER door, which I believe we should do and make law and 2. The price of the drug industry, which is simply a cost associated with the best drugs and research in the world. Now, stop relying on the govt to fix your problems and fix your own situations in life by making better decisions and teaching your kids to make better decisions themselves instead of indoctrinating them in excuse-hood!

This is an excellent response.

These people are not only cheating my family, but diluting the help that the truly needy should be getting.

People choose lifestyles/purchases they cannot afford. Most of these decisions are based on ignorance and/or covetous.
It's sad indeed, but those who are responsible should not bare the burden of there negligence.

I'm not talking about the few that fall on hard times through no fault of their own and continue to try to move forward. The system should be able to absorb these.

It's the lazy people of all races that do not want to better themselves, of which there are many.

And there's your mistake - you think people suffering health problems made bad choices, rather than being inflicted by something they largely had no control over.

Obligatory Public Service Reminder for those of you new to BamaAtl's bullshite:

She doesn't care about you. She doesn't care about the poor.

What she DOES care about is the fact her paycheck is tied to Obamacare.

FYI, my paycheck isn't tied to the ACA. Salary support is fun like that.

To address this separately:

What were your annual/lifetime caps pre-ACA? What did that plan not cover that your new ACA-compliant plan does cover?

And what do you think would be the main things that you would like to see done to help lower your family's costs re: healthcare?

Oh hell I don't know...maybe not having to fund someone else's healthcare?

You have to do that regardless, because you personally cannot afford the full cost of your own care when it is needed.

And your mistake is thinking that the government can fix anything. Theft is a very short-term budgeting solution.
