This race is in the Lafayette/New Iberia area. I know Blake Miguez has been a Republican Delegation Chair and is a strong conservative. I don’t know anything about Hugh Andre, or anybody else running in this race.

Farmer. Bought the old Squirrel Run Golf Course in New Iberia. Did a great job with it. Closed the clubhouse to house his Guatemalan workers. That is all I got.

Votes correctly and sticks to it. Hated by the Advocate and RINOs.

Outside my normal geographic political sphere, BUT told Money, and BIG money pouring in against Miguez. [I have no dog in the fight, and would know neither of them if they bit me on the ankle, but Miquez must have pissed off some folks]

The word I’m hearing locally is former Senator Craig Romero and Speaker Clay Schexnayder are throwing a lot of money at André to beat Miguez.

Then it’s Blake all the way.

Why does Romero not like Miguez? Given the Port connections, I thought those two would be friendly.

I think Miguez made Romero and others mad during the last session because he wouldn’t support busting the spending cap.

Ah ok. I know Miguez was down there for the photo op when the Port announced the new funding from the State. I thought that would have bought him some goodwill.

I hope Miguez wins, but that Senate District 22 is the same district that Scott Angelle and Jindal Camp locked down for Fred Mills in a special election, helping him get a good head start vs a legit conservative candidate in then-Rep Simone Champagne.

Those same folks who were pro-Champagne will likely be pro-Miguez, but the pro-Mills Republican faction along with Democrat voters will likely be in the Hugh Andre corner.

Blake has a good reputation, but he will be fighting the entrenched good ole boy network in this race.

All you need to know is that Craig Romero is backing Andre. Romero and his father, Francis who used to have a contract with the parish for putting oyster shell all along the roads of the parish(which probably depleted most of the oyster reefs in Vermilion Bay) have been typical LA good 'ol boy network folks. Vote Blake.

Another interesting connection that I don’t think a lot of people outside of this area are aware of is that Jeff Landry is in that same good ol boy network with Angelle, Mills, Romero, etc.

Not sure about Angelle and Mills, but yes, Jeff Landry helped manage Craig Romero’s campaign for Congress back in 2004.

However, I THINK many in the base supporting Miguez also have gravitated towards also being fans of Landry.

Could make for an interesting race if Landry is more beholden to Romero’s camp rather than Miguez’s, and makes you wonder what effect such could also have on the Governor’s race.

Yeah, that's part of it. But some of it is his personal interaction with other legislators. I heard he rubs some legislators the wrong way; too strident and brusk.

I like him, but he isn't trying to whip my vote.

Craig is pissed because he can’t control Blake. He can control Hugh.

I don’t know much about the Miguez-Romero connection. I know more about the Landry-Romero connection.

I just thought all those guys would have been red meat allies bringing the pork back to the Port.
