Our police are EXACTLY the same.
There are hundreds of videos of situations that basically go like this.
1. Large group of activists of some sort somewhere.
2. Someone present who is holding a sign group #1 doesn't like
3. Group 1 threatens person or group in 2.
4. Group 2 won't leave.
5. Group 1 calls cops.
Cops show up and tell #2 that they are "disturbing the peace" because apprently, if OTHER people want to get violent with you over words, YOU are the problem.

Easier to remove the law abiding people from a potentially bad situation. That's why you see so many people arrested and then released with no charges once they are removed from a situation. Easier to arrest the guy that isn't going to fight.
Not that it is right, but it is easier. I know enough cops to understand that 9 times out of 10 they will choose Easier over right.
