Grandstanding and protecting Lerner, yet Lerner is not cooperating.

This is nothing but a huge issue. DC is broken and they all need to be excused from office.

They will never do anything to her. Nothing will happen with the IRS.

The meeting has already been adjourned by Issa after she pleaded the Fifth on every question. The black Democrat is now screaming "you can't do that" to Issa when he fails to realize that the chairman of a committee can do that in fact if he opts to do so.

Yup... If she has nothing to hide, why the frick can't she answer a simple question?

Its despicable how far Cummings is going to protect her. Issa is over the top, but he's got testimony from someone under Lerner who testified that she told him to give Tea Party groups extra scrutiny.

I can't watch what's going on. What is the next step? What can they do in order to get to the bottom of this? Do the Republicans (and any Democrats) that want to know the Truth have the fortitude to do anything?

So basically, from what I've read here, this was just a big old waste of time today?

Sounds like fricking nothing... What a great country we live in. Someone within a federal position can use her power to punish individuals and cannot be held accountable.

I'm wondering, can the organizations who were targeted sue her directly for discrimination or harassment?

ETA: Im sure she can hide behind a union or the govt

So assuming Isa is going to press the point that she be held in contempt of court, who would execute the arrest? I'm guessing Eric Holder?

Good question.

You know, we've reached a point in this country that it seems the rule of law doesn't matter any more. People don't care about integrity, honesty, or character if 'their guy' is in office. The ends justify the means.

That's okay, I guess, until the pendulum swings and the other party is in office and the other party starts doing the same thing - using Federal agencies to punish opponents. If nothing comes of this, a dangerous precedent will have been set.

We are definitely in a politically poisonous environment. Trouble is, I don't see it changing. We need a leader that will unite us and not purposefully divide us. I'm not sure we have that in either Party.

Not to sound tin-foil hat, but it is real clear to me that democratic legislative leadership was in on all this IRS targeting.

This...

It's all about gaining individual power. It no longer matters what is best for the country as a whole.

That's what gets me. It's clear to any thinking individual that this was not mere coincidence.

Nixon should have employed this strategy. But back then we had functioning journalists who investigated and got the bottom of the issues. It provided accountablity and checks and balances that kept the Federal Gov't on a shorter leash. That ship has now sailed.

That sounds better than any Mid-South wrestling angle from the 80s!

Theatrics. All for show. Maybe I'm just cynical, but I don't think they are going to do anything about this.

I remember though, when they pulled the baseball players before a Congressional committee regarding the steroid issue. I remember when they called the 'corporate fatcats' before a Congressional committee to scold them about flying corporate jets. I remember the circus surrounding Scooter Libby 'outing' Valerie Plame.

Why is it that they waste precious time and money on insignificant issues and don't have the balls to do anything regarding 'potential' HUGE issues?

Mr. Cummings, how do you think the citizens of the United States feel. We just want the truth about what has happened. Yet you would rather protect and grandstand about a witness who refuses to testify.

She's pulling the same stuff Ollie North did during the Iran/Contra hearings.
