So let me be clear- I am opposed to government mandated restructuring of executive pay.

That said, I don't completely buy some of justification of C-level play. I think there is too cozy a relationship between the CEO and the board. It's not ubiquitous, but its too common for me to be comfortable with.

Bad situation happen, but they are rarer than what people gripe about it make it out to be. The guy who does a stellar job, gets paid a nice salary and vests his options, and lives happily ever after doesn't make the headlines.

Those people also tend to ignore that average C suite tenure has gotten ridiculously short - right around 3 years - as C suite pay has relatively risen. The demands on return are much higher, the average tenure is much shorter, and people burn out much more quickly. Similar situation for football coaches, actually.

I made it on that while in college so I was paying 3k a semester tuition as well. Rented a room for 400 a month. Ate sandwiches and hit noddles. Hit up local dinner specials about twice a month. Drove a POS single cab truck and didn't go on vacations. Zero help from parents. I actually miss that part of my life. Simple times.

They're already 'giving back' by simply providing jobs to people and taxes to the govt.

Let's not act like they are doing this for the good of the community. They are doing it for the money.

Profits don't anger me. Corporations not paying taxes anger me.
Don't give me the corporate tax is too high BS. I think my taxes are too high but I still pay them. Why should they be able to get around that?

Because they have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to minimize their tax receipts as much as possible.

Next question:

Why is our corporate tax rate so high?

They are too high but too many loopholes. Get rid of the loopholes and lower the rate. Decrease regulation as well and we'll see a vibrant economy.

yep. see cable television and the phone companies.
telecoms is the bread and butter of oligarchies across the globe, but it's more than that. publishing, television, radio, motion pictures, etc.

but on first world level it annoys me. that's how I know the people boycotting o'reilly's advertisers weren't serious. Believe me, I've tried this...it's impossible unless you want to survive on bread and water and not drive anywhere because not only do the same handful of companies dominate, they advertise on the same platforms as well

Obesity does not equal being out of poverty. Actually the opposite since poor people usually buy cheap precooked foods that are unhealthy because it is cheaper than buying raw items and cooking your own meals.

So they don't have a responsibility to the country that provides the resources and infrastructure that makes them successful?

Poor people don't pay for their food, the tax payers do. Our poor are fat because they make bad decisions. Those bad decisions are usually why they are also poor.

Do they not pay taxes?

And that commitment to "the country that provides the resources and infrastructure that makes them successful" is superseded by the commitment to their shareholders.

It is the way in which markets function best and general welfare improves. Unless you want to move to Venezuela.
