You come down with the virus. The authorities want you to tell them everywhere you've been and everyone you've been in contact with for the past 30 days.

What do you do?

I tell them to frick off.

New York hiring "Contact Tracers"

quote:

Contact Tracers
Jobs have been advertised for people with public health backgrounds to investigate and trace COVID-19 cases and contacts. The City is looking to hire 1,000 people by the end of May with an immediate start date.

1200 state employees are re-assigned to contact tracing by Utah's Gov Herbert according to Mike Pence in a press conference last week. The article says 300 "volunteers", so the other 900 had no choice, I guess.

And National Guard personnel will also join the effort according to a Salt Lake Tribune article 4/27/20:

"Utah Guard soldiers bring their language skills to a new battlefront"

"Utah National Guard’s 300th Military Intelligence Brigade."

I imagine this could get sticky for some people.

Contact tracing. Let's say you found out later you were positive after you have taken a full flight to New York then hop on a crowded subway after said flight.

Yeah Right

The idea of contact tracing has no place in a virus with sub-1 percent death rates.

That's something from a movie where the virus is a death sentence and they are racing the clock trying to stop it.

Ebola? Maybe.

China virus? Negative

Exactly. It’s cute they’re playing coy and all, but if they wanna know, they’ll find out with or without your permission.

At some point the government is going to say “it’s too difficult to contact trace this way” and “for the safety of our citizens we need complete access to cell phone location histories.”

It feels gross that anyone would think any level of bug would justify government overreach, but OK

No place in a virus spread through the air. It's not like HIV and tracing sexual contacts or needle sharing. This is more stupidity.

And email accounts and passwords (which they already have, anyway)
