And with good reason. He lies as if it's a reflex for him and all he has to do is say "believe me" after to get away with it.
All together, Trump has made 720 false claims in his first 269 days
— an average of 2.7 false claims per day.
Those are unique lies.
The Washington Post counts duplicates and their count is 1,318 false or misleading claims over 263 days. If he says the USA is the highest taxed advanced country in the world in two separate speeches, they count that as two lies. WaPo
If he starts telling the truth more often, the press would be happier with him.

No president should get a pass from the press.Trump is his own worst enemy, though.

4. Trump Income Tax Rates Target Hollywood Celebrities and Media Members
5. Trump Turns White House Over to Hillary Opponent
The only things Trump could do that would result in good coverage from the media are resign or announce he will not seek a second term.
