When someone says MSM they are saying "every media outlet except the most popular one and all the other conservative ones"
You're changing the meaning of "mainstream" it literally means popular. No one wants to hear it but it's true im sorry. I've always had an issue with hijacking an all encompassing term when it's simply not true.

When is the last time you heard any media outlet other than Fox refer to Fox as main stream media? Very seldom do they even refer to Fox as Fox but we all know who they are talking about when mentioning "that other station". Doesn't sound to me that they think of Fox as mainstream if they can't even give them due diligence.
