No deal on state budget reached. The politics and self interest on display in the room those last few hours was shameful and embarrassing.

quote:

The regular session came to an emotional end in the House that included shouting and unusual maneuvering, but ultimately no agreement between the House and Senate over how much the state should spend in the budget that begins July 1. Meanwhile, senators and spectators crowded the chamber to watch the House meltdown unfold.

Cause you all manage to elect bottom feeding idiots as your state reps. End of story.

I blame the Governor more than them. His answer is to raise still more taxes, and the majority of the Legislature disagrees.

Even worse, 30 minutes after the end of the regular session, the legislature started a special session.

The first thing they did in the special session was to adjourn until Monday because they wanted a long weekend off.

I'm NOT making this up.

Yesterday had nothing to do with raising taxes.

And the Senate adjourned until Wednesday at 4:00!

But in all fairness, they need to draft bills which is mostly a staff thing. Really no point in staying in town and drawing a per diem.

So it looks bad, but if they stayed in town it would look better, but actually be worse.

It had to do with our Republican controlled house wanting to not spend all the state's revenue because the revenue projection has been wrong 9 times in the last 15 years.
Its called fiscal responsibility. They also presented 2 compromise budgets. The senate presented none.

But our governor and his group of crooks in the Senate like John Alario want to spend all the revenue then when the projection is wrong the state goes in a deficit, then come the tax increases.

And Jindal and his Republican controlled house had at least 7 of those in his 8 years.

They don't care about that. They just want to make shite hard on a democrat.

What do you want them to do? You think the senate and the governor's plans were better?
You think they should've passed a gas tax when DOTD can't even use the current tax money they receive efficiently?

LOL poor JBE Can't tax and spend his way out of Jindal's mess who by the way did a horrible job.
But JBE is just as bad if not worse and the house is letting him know they won't be bullied anymore.

i've been seeing that gripe more and more lately. it reeks of a chickenshit rhetorical shield for something we wanted to do anyway.

if the house doesn't like the revenue projections, the speaker has veto power on them. as does the senate president. as does the governor. it's a public meeting, with the projections also made public. the public can also have input.

so we have a problem that's existed for a long time, but instead of attempts to get it fixed, it's used as an excuse for a policy decision. scapegoating the decisions of some board for a policy decision, when that board is directly under the thumb and in fact made up of policymakers. that's chickenshit.

Definitely what it looks like. We had no problem sweeping funds and spending up to the limits of projected revenue over the last administration.
