Yes... it is a paid holiday..

The Los Angeles City Council voted on Wednesday to replace the Columbus Day holiday with Indigenous Peoples Day. Councilmembers voted 14-1 to make the second Monday in October a day to commemorate indigenous, aboriginal and native people. It will be a paid holiday for city employees.

So who are those people exactly? I don't think it's conclusive who the indigenous even were.

This is the important piece here. For everyone else, it's still Columbus Day and except for bankers and some companies that give tons of holidays, they'll still be working.

It's still pretty ridiculous, though.

Seems a bit anti-immigrant.

Is it? For all they know the indigenous, natives and aboriginals were utter savages...but they aren't white so its appropriate in liberal world.

I don't exactly understand the problem with Columbus. He's not a bad guy. The Indian killing was done long after he found the place.

It really is LA-LA Land in so many ways. Well beyond fruitcakeness.

Even if Columbus did bad things there are very very very very very very very few people who were in recorded history that didn't have some black mark in their life. Think about it, powerful people were typically the ones that were recorded in history and they were the ones who got the credit and blame for whatever in the history books.

Even the "poor Native Americans" had plenty of savage moments no doubt. Its not like they were some peaceful tribe before white people arrived. They probably killed each other with spears as much as people in Chicago today kill each other with guns. But I guess only white people can do wrong.

Erase all history and stop calling people by nationality or names. We will be gender neutral signs from earth. Solve all the problems. Well until Earth offends people.

I thought the "natives" came over the land bridge from Asia. If that's the case then they're no more indigenous than anybody,

Is this a Viking holiday? I thought that's what the History Channel had last year. Man thought I had all this sorted out and confused again.
