Never heard him speak, but he seems to have been Trump's best advisor. Does he run for office down the road?

Dude is mysterious as hell.
I don't have the slightest idea what his political leanings are.

Interesting article on his role in the campaign
Seems like he's a behind-the-scenes kind of guy
quote:
“It’s hard to overstate and hard to summarize Jared’s role in the campaign,” says billionaire Peter Thiel, the only significant Silicon Valley figure to publicly back Trump. “If Trump was the CEO, Jared was effectively the chief operating officer.” “Jared Kushner is the biggest surprise of the 2016 election,” adds Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, who helped design the Clinton campaign’s technology system. “Best I can tell, he actually ran the campaign and did it with essentially no resources.” No resources at the beginning, perhaps. Underfunded throughout, for sure. But by running the Trump campaign–notably, its secret data operation–like a Silicon Valley startup, Kushner eventually tipped the states that swung the election. And he did so in manner that will change the way future elections will be won and lost. President Obama had unprecedented success in targeting, organizing and motivating voters. But a lot has changed in eight years. Specifically social media. Clinton did borrow from Obama’s playbook but also leaned on traditional media. The Trump campaign, meanwhile, delved into message tailoring, sentiment manipulation and machine learning. The traditional campaign is dead, another victim of the unfiltered democracy of the Web–and Kushner, more than anyone not named Donald Trump, killed it.

He hates the spotlight so I doubt he ever runs for anything

A Jewish New Yorker, likely extremely liberal... but, like Trump, has a vendetta against the "establishment" due to his father being imprisoned. Just my hunch though.

nailed it
Huh? His father was a straight-up criminal. Any "vendetta" by the son would be completely invalid, unless he's a psychopath.

If by "establishment" you mean his uncle. That happened because of family dispute.

Kushner is a smart guy, but I REALLY doubt that Eric Schmidt (basically drew the DNC gameplan in 2014) would be allowed ANYWHERE NEAR Trump's campaign to know anything.
Eric Schmidt, Soros & Bezos were/are basically much bigger enemy than Hillary.
So this statement “Best I can tell, he actually ran the campaign and did it with essentially no resources.” is just another attack from the sore losers.

Kushner made multiple donations to political campaigns because, as a developer, he created over 100 partnerships, which could each make their own donations, New York Magazine reports. However, when he would make these donations, he would also make them in the name of other partners, who he declined to tell. One of these partners was his own brother, Murray. Murray sued Kushner and wanted a full account of where the money was going.
Charles was also fined by the Federal Election Commission and had to pay $508,900 in connection with donations made between December 1997 and August 2000 because they were made by partnerships that were in reality controlled by the same person.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie enters the story in 2004. At the time, Christie was U.S. Attorney for New Jersey and going after Kushner was an early success story for him. Christie indicted Kushner on conspiracy, obstruction of justice and witness intimidation, notes Multi Family Executive.
That last charge stems from the fact that Kushner hired a prostitute to seduce William Schulder, his sister Esther Schulder’s husband, in an effort to get Esther to not cooperate with authorities. According to The New York Times, Kushner admitted that this was “wrong in every way” in a letter to Esther that was made public during an appeal for leniency.
