Just saw his commercial. It says he's an "award winning attorney," but doesn't tell you what award he won. Anyone know? What kind of law does this guy practice? Does he try a lot of cases?

And the case he bashes Caldwell for, isn't that the Cecil Collins case where Caldwell let him out based upon time served in Florida?

Here's his firm website bio. He's a plaintiff's personal injury trial lawyer.

He is also a 1993 inductee into the LSU Law Center Hall of Fame. After graduation from law school, Randy served one year terms as Law Clerk, first to Justice Pike Hall, Jr. of the Louisiana Supreme Court, and then to Chief Judge Henry A. Politz of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Trash him all you want, but those are far stronger credentials than anyone else on the 19th bench. And, no, I don't know him.

You know what else is good qualification?

Actually having and doing the fricking job.

other than bitching Caldwell doesn't hear criminal cases (which he can do nothing about, nor could Randy), he can say nothing about Caldwell ' s performance.

Those are nice credentials, which makes his reliance on dirty and misleading campaign ads, instead of his unique qualifications for this position, all the more questionable.

Caldwell doesn't because he is a civil court judge. There are judges that hear just civil and judges that just hear criminal.

This. Such an ignorant statement by Piedrahita. I didn't know much about him until my wife, a lawyer, told me about his comments. I voted Caldwell this morning.

there's a lot of people that will vote against caldwell because of the "he doesn't do criminal cases" commercial.

and the kennedy jackass is the voice on the radio ad that is supporting him. what an idiot.

there was a race out here in LC 6 years ago that was swung at the very end for similar "i've never done criminal cases but my opponent has" ads

i can see it working in BR

And I have from many who practice law or work at district court that Piedrahita and his brother are very weird guys.

I think most lawyers would tell you that someone's achievements in law school doesn't necessarily correlate with how well you perform as a practicing attorney or a judge for that matter(not that Piedrahita hasn't been very successful in practice as well.)

However, it's a little disconcerting when the guy's first exposure to the public at large is accompanied by misleading and disingenuous statements. Sure that's politics, but I would think (hope?) that of all elected officials, Judge would be the one that people would demand the most integrity from.

then you really dont know anyone on the 19th jdc bench. there are multiple people on there far more 'qualified' than piedrahita will ever be.

how is a millionaire plaintiff's attorney qualified to hear criminal cases? he hasnt been practicing criminal law...maybe it is because he plays GI Joe on the weekends with a volunteer SWAT team? give me a break.

A little late now, but if he wins, THIS is who will be handling a completely CIVIL docket:

$23 million to gas thief and his family for gas explosion resulting from theft

quote:

The bare essentials of the events leading up to this tragic incident are not in dispute, although certain key factual issues are disputed. On May 7, 2003, Larry M. West, a senior service technician who works for Centerpoint Energy, disconnected the natural gas service at the house occupied by the Jones family because of a delinquent account balance for gas service already provided. Thirty-eight days later, on the evening of June 14, 2003, Mr. Jones reconnected the natural gas service, and at approximately 4:00 a.m. the next morning the explosion occurred. Mr. and Mrs. Jones; their four children, Marquetta, Bianca, Carl, Jr., and Dashawana; and their granddaughter, Dai'Jhnea Joseph, all sustained severe personal injuries.

Well frick. Which one of you want to take credit for cancelling my "swat guy" vote? I didn't realize Caldwell's 'sexual predator' was Cecil Collins? And I didn't realize "swat guy" voted for Obama.

His commercials full of lies really pulled the wool over a lot of people's eyes. I hope he doesn't win.

It could mean he represented a client who was awarded damages by a judge or jury.

I voted against him because of the endorsements by the Police and Fire Fighters Unions.

No question. He really is the true definition of a RINO. The ONLY reason the "R" is by his name is so he would have any chance of winning the election by convincing the low/no information voters to push the button for a Republican regardless of if they knew anything about him.

He's out campaigned and out worked Caldwell (even if it was completely misleading). I would not be shocked to see him take the seat

If Caldwell's comments to WAFB are correct, Piedrahita would be handling a completely CRIMINAL docket if he were elected as he would be at the bottom of the seniority pole.

Only if one of the current criminal judges wants to do civil (except Don Johnson...the Supreme Court will never let him do that again).
