I just watched a story on Caldwell and Piedrahita race for judge in Baton Rouge and how Piedrahita has turned it into such an ugly race.

Piedrahita said he voted for Obama and was a democrat. Was? Yeah, right!

Piedrahita has been lying about Caldwell refusing to hear criminal cases. Caldwell doesn't because he is a civil court judge. There are judges that hear just civil and judges that just hear criminal.

The story helped me to decide and vote for Caldwell.

I have never seen a judicial election like this. A number of his ads are misleading to the uninformed (which is a lot in a judicial race).

He's pretty proud of being a former swat team member, basically a paid killer

Not former. He is on the EBRSO SWAT Team as a Reserve Deputy.

Too bad he is running for a civil seat. Hmm...plaintiffs attorney on a civil bench.

Oh, you might want to look into his representation of the gas thief that killed and maimed his own family against the gas company.

He features that pretty prominently in all his ads. Seems like a strange thing to hype up as qualification to be a judge, to me.

I think the judges agree to split it up and seniority kind of rules out here. You have some at the 19th that will never go civil like Erwin, Jackson, Daniels and Marabella. I don't think the divisions are permanently civil or criminal but seniority gets the option.

Piedrahita's harping on taking criminal cases really turns me off. For one, he wants them REALLY bad. He is a SWAT guy. Two, its kind of disingenuous and plays on low information voters (who doesn't though). He is basically saying everyone at the 19th that is a civil judge is some kind of coward.

The specialization of judges at the 19th is the best thing going for the 19th. If you want to do family go up to the 4th floor and deal with judges who only deal in that.

I decided against Piedrahita when I saw he was an accident lawyer. Don't really want anyone on the bench promoting that anymore than it already is.

Pretty sure he is an ambulance chasing plaintiffs attorney running as a RINO. The blatant lies to the uninformed have really bothered me. Caldwell has my vote.

Piedrahita claimed endorsement from basically all law enforcement organizations in the city in one of his recent radio ads.

That should be enough to write him off as a serious candidate for a district judge IMO. With the way this country has changed since 9/11 and with how much law enforcement officials are allowed to get away these days, the last thing I'd want is someone who's in their pocket.

Add in the SWAT thing and it's a no-brainer.

And that's ignoring all the blatant misinformation, too.

Correct just goes to show how politics will muddy the water

There is some truth on both sides but both sides always do better at untruth

Just to clarify, judges in the 19th can have both criminal and civil dockets if they so choose. Most simply stick to one or the other as it's a terrible idea to do both.

Police forces have all this spare war equipment from the Pentagon that they couldn't use without the extra help.
