I am opposed to people having their property taken away.

I would have to be convinced that it was critical to our well being to support this.

I am not convinced.

It may be a good idea to run such a pipeline, but not if it requires the taking of private property.

Do Keystone Pipeline supporters also support Canadians seizing Americans' land?

Why ate you making this a liberal/republican issue? You do realize that most Americans, regardless of political affiliation, are against the idea of forced cessation of property.

I never heard a carjacker offer anyone money to borrow their vehicle.

So if he offers you money, you are required to let him do it whether you want someone else to drive your car or not?

Just compensation is that which has been voluntarily agreed upon by both parties to a transaction.

No, I was replying to his absurd statement with another absurd statement. His comparison is not like the other.

such a stupid comparison. It would be like someone having the cure for aids and saying he's not giving it to anyone no matter what. At some point others are compelled to action for their own survival.

We need ED rules to balance societies benefit with a persons ownership rights to hold things together. IMO.

ETA: damn didn't intend to further this "spam" thread...

I agree it's an absurd comparison, but I was responding to another posters jackass response to it.

Look, if I don't want a private company's pipeline running through my property, I should be able to stop it.

Society does not exist as an entity. Ownership of property eventually falls not on everyone but to the state or those individuals the state favors.

What if a crazy rich ex girlfriend bought all the property around your house and told you you could never trespass? would that be fair?

What is the government forcing me to do in that scenario? What is te government forcing her to do?

ETA: you also had a shitty closing attorney who didn't secure you a right of ingress/egress in that scenario.

Right but some theft is legal and some isn't. Hell suing someone for damages is theft.

Nothing at the moment. You're either stuck in or out of your property and you're only recourse is to break the law.

See my edit above. It could have and should have been resolved prior to that point. That's a private negotiation involving no government intervention.

I just wish I could get this conversation on taxation. Because If I really own my paycheck nobody else should be able to take some of it.

Otherwise you have to admit I don't own anything.
