Kellogg Announces Major Job Cuts, Facility Closures, Sales Forecast Slashed

by WARNER TODD HUSTON9 Feb 2017

Kellogg Company, the nation’s largest breakfast cereal manufacturer, is again announcing major cut backs and has slashed its sales forecast as profits continue to fall.

Kellogg CEO: No 'discernible' impact from online boycott

Associated Press 2:49 p.m. ET Feb. 9, 2017

NEW YORK — Kellogg says it saw no "discernible" effect from an online boycott spurred by its decision to pull ads from a website formerly run by one of President Trump's top aides.

CEO John Bryant said it's difficult to gauge the impact of such consumer actions given the volume of its sales, but that the company did not see any effect it could attribute to the boycott. Kellogg had announced its decision in late November to pull ads from Breitbart.com, which has been criticized for featuring racist, sexist and anti-Semitic content.

The website subsequently called for a boycott of the company.

At the time, Kellogg had said it works with media buying partners to ensure its ads don't appear on sites that aren't "aligned with our values." The company and others have said such ad placement can come about because of automated ad buying programs.

"We had no intention of getting into a political discussion," Bryant said in a phone interview Thursday.

Paul Norman, president of Kellogg North America, also said Thursday that the company generally does not advertise on news sites because there is a chance an ad can end up next a negative story. [..]

Sad for the people that will be out of a job.

Maybe, just maybe companies should stay out of politics. Actions have consequences.

What happened to the time when as long as your money was green, they didn't care about your politics?

They layoffs are due to a change in their product delivery model, it has nothing to do with a drop in business.

quote:

Kellogg could lay off more than 1,100 employees as a result of its decision to leave its direct-store delivery network this year, though the impact on Battle Creek is said to be minimal.

The company said Wednesday it plans to begin exiting the network in favor of the warehouse model in the second quarter of 2017. As a result, the company will close 39 of its distribution centers. Spokeswoman Kris Charles said Thursday that those sites average about 30 full-time workers, which would equate to about 1,170 job cuts.

Are you claiming that the boycott resulted in the job cuts?

Hear ... Hear..... Likewise..... No Kellogs products in my house either. Also told my wife to cancel her TJ Max credit card, and not to shop at Marshall's or TJ Max any more. Will not darken their doors again until they issue a statement that they will continue to carry the Ivanka Trump line once more.....

The sooner companies stop making political moves and statements the better.

If the economy depended upon the Breitbart crowd we'd be teetering on the brink of being a failed state.

By all indications these layoffs have nothing to do with Breitbart, its dough-brained readers, or their boycott.
