Obama was indeed a senator. But only for a short while. So I wouldn't go throwing that as a qualification since all he did was warm the seat before starting his campain.

Woodrow Wilson only had a year as Governor of New Jersey under his belt. I think he may have been the only PHD to ever hold office. He is credited with the revenue act of 1913 (income tax) and seeing the Adamson act calling for a regular 8 hour work day. He still stroked out in his second term and staffed his slots with Southern segregationists.
I don't think Trump is unqualified at all however he definitely is unorthodox and not what has been before him.
