You must change your school mascot now. It's not named after an animal. Sorry LSU baws. That's what must happen to quell the thirst of the aggrieved.

Save money and just change the story to it being named after George Jefferson. Problem solved.

I'd rather get rid of Lincoln or Grant parishes.

Would be a problem if it was either Thomas Jefferson or Jefferson Davis.

Should just pass the resolution now, naming it after George Jefferson. Boom. Problem solved.

ETA: Damn, indianswim - you got me on that one.

Actually,, it was. The Jefferson Memorial Arch in Gretna has a prominent Jefferson Davs plaque.

In all seriousness, it's kind of surprising that the anti-religion ilk hasn't demanded the removal of such ecclesiastical language (e.g., parish) from Louisiana government.

It was named after Thomas Jefferson, not Jefferson Davis.

And we're not the least bit racist here either. There's hardly two or three Rebel Flags to be seen.

Louisiana was named after Louis XIV, who was a known warhound...time for the name to go!

This actually brings up a good point. The use of "parish" rather than "county" is a direct nod to the Catholic Church. Can't have that, can we?
