I assume Alabama would not be a target for Democrats to pick up a Senate seat?

What is the majority opinion of Alabama residents on the guy?

Very respected man. I almost don't want him to take a cabinet position because I would hate to lose him has an Alabama Senator. I like him a hell of a lot more than Shelby. I'm just praying that we can find someone with half his integrity to fill his Senate spot.

Every time I've wrote Senator Sessions he's returned my questions fully answered and to my satisfaction. A few times he told me things I didn't like, but he answered honestly.

I agree. When I lived in Alabama I wrote in a couple times and always got responses. Of course it's an aide, but it shows you that he runs a tight ship and cares about his constituency. Now in Louisiana I've written in a couple times and, well, crickets. . .

I very seriously doubt it. Granted, Alabama had always elected Democratic Senators up until the 1981, when we had one Republican (Denton) and one Democratic (Heflin) Senator. Denton was then replaced by Shelby in 1987 (who was a Democrat for the first 8 or so years of his reign, until he switched to Republican in 1994), and Heflin was replaced by Republican Sessions in 1997. But keep in mind that "Dixie" Democrats were a different breed than what Democrats are today.

But I would be shocked to see Sessions replaced by a democrat at this point in time. I'm just concerned we would get someone in there that isn't nearly as competent or trustworthy as Sessions is.

He is viewed as a Boy Scout, George Washington's "I cannot tell a lie" comes to mind...

Straight arrow, unimpeachable, unassailable character. Old school Christian from rural Alabama. Hybart I think down in North Monroe or Southern Wilcox County.. Best Deer hunting in the State.

Today most people would call him a fuddy duddy or a codger...He is your "grandfather's oldsmobile", to take liberties with the 70s TV commercial.

Will be hard to replace for Alabama.

The term limits crowd would have thrown his arse out 8 years ago.

This is why term limits didn't get anywhere in 1994 and won't now.

I know a bunch of people who have worked for Sessions. Good guy and does a good job in his role as a Jr. Senator from Alabama. The truth is he had no prospects of really becoming a party leader and he saw an opportunity with Trump to change that. More power to him for that decision but I honesty think Trump can do so much better when it comes to filling the State and Defense positions.

Compared to some of the yokels we tend to have in statewide offices here in AL, I'd rather have Sessions down here as Governor or Senator....but that's a low bar to hurdle. Just think he'd be out of his element as Secretary of State or Defense. If he gets a cabinet spot, then I think Bentley will appoint Luther Strange to replace him. No need to worry about a Democrat taking a Senate seat here in Alabama. Better chance of Chattanooga beating Alabama this weekend.

I've seen his official signature on papers signed by him at NASA...and it matches what I had answered. The items I received were signed in blue ink and the ink was smudged slightly so I know it was real ink, not as stamp. I don't think mine was signed by an aide.

Shelby on the other hand...definitely an aide...and then one time I wrote Cramer (back when he was in office)....I think that was a stamp.

I lived in La before Texas, before Alabama....and yes with respect to La reps...crickets.

That's because Shelby was too busy learning the backroads.

Still can't believe that at the age of 80, Shelby ran again and won without a runoff on the same primary day that Trump won the state convincingly. I don't mind Shelby, he knows how to play the game in DC and you need someone like that on the wall. However, Alabama voters are so full of shite sometimes when it comes to being anti-establishment.
