Think about this for a moment. These are daily press briefings. Why is it necessary to answer press questions immediately as opposed to responding, "we'll get back to you on that tomorrow"? It is all about creating the perception that the government is prepared for everything. And the press has become willing accomplices in selling the perception.

This is not unique to the Obama administraion. It's been going on for a long time.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is denying a television news reporter's claim that reporters often 'provide the questions to him in advance,' before his daily briefings, and that he sometimes provides answers on paper before taking the podium.

Apparently not. I mean we have a local CBS reporter (per the link in the OP) reporting that Carney receives questions prior to the WH briefing. It wouldn't be news if it was common knowledge.

It would be interesting to hear some feedback from other WH press secretaries on their experience with this issue.

My guess is Dana Perino will address the facts of the matter this afternoon on The Five.

I'd have more respect for the "game" if the press secretaries used,"I'll get back with you on that". Then the following press conference can begin the secession with answering unanswered questions from the previous day. In fact, the first part of every press conference should begin with an administrative person reading the unanswered questions from the previous press conference followed by the answers.

That wasn't news so much as it was a "day in the life of " in depth story from a local TV station....and of course The Weekly Standard runs it like it's some sort of scoop.

Do you really think this is the first administration to do this yet nobody in the White House Press Corps (including Fox, Washington Times, etc.) has said anything about it? Are they in on the liberal media conspiracy too?

But Carney denied it happens. Do you know more about a day in Carney's life than he does?

I don't know. I'll have to get back with you on that question.

Seriously, IDK.

No conspiracy. Just bias.

Yeah, maybe that's the real news here.

[quote] think the prepared things are just starting points for the discussion. You want Carney reasonably prepared to discuss the things you want answers to. If you start asking questions about Estonia without any pretext, I doubt Carney will have an answer. Why is that useful to the media or to the public?[/quote[/b]]

It is very seldom useful to the public for these very reasons. The majority of the questions are asked by liberal media members, therefore the majority of the questions are from the liberal perspective. Now we find out they are scripted and coordinated. Is it beyond the realm of possibility the reverse occurs and the Obama administration instructs the press on the questions to ask to enable them to get their message out in a seeming neutral setting.

Sure, a Jake Tapper or Chuck Todd will raise an issue every once in a while to appear there is objectivity. Then shortly thereafter they will be on their network shows defending the indefensible on behalf of the administration in spite of concrete evidence to the contrary.

White House correspondents Ed Henry of Fox News and Julie Pace of the Associated press were quick to deny the claim. ABC's Jonathan Karl denied the he personally submits questions beforehand. CNN's Jake Tapper, former White House correspondent for ABC News also denied the charge:

It was all a lie

So it turns out that it was all fantasy by an incompetent local reporter.
