What the heck does this mean? Homicide by Hinckley? Very confusing, at least the way it's depicted in the article.

Yes.
"The death on Monday of President Ronald Reagan’s press secretary James S. Brady, has been ruled a homicide as a result of the gunshot wound he suffered in an assassination attempt on Reagan in 1981, according to District police department’s chief spokeswoman."

Is there any possibility of a murder charge, or is there a limit on the amount of time between the action and the victim's death?

He was found to be insane if I recall. This is political BS.

"There was no immediate word on whether the shooter, John W. Hinckley, who has been treated at St. Elizabeths psychiatric hospital, could face new criminal charges. Hinckley, 59, was found not guilty by reason of insanity after he shot Reagan and three others on March 30, 1981."

Longest time I've ever heard of it taking somebody to die from a gunshot wound.
I always thought the record was held by Tim Roth in "Reservoir Dogs".

I don't give 2 shits about Hinkley and I won't say it's medically impossible but this looks goofy as hell.

When I die, charge my mother with a homicide. My birth contributed directly to my death in that I could not have died without being born.

Are you gun rights nuts bothered by this? Are you afraid this is some sort of conspiracy?

Credit is here sir. al.com is no place for civilized discussion. Those poor dumb bastards make the rant look like Rhodes Scholars.

IS the coroner just supposed to make up another reason for death to appease you?
If I inject you with HIV and it takes you 10 years to die - you're OK if I'm not charged with murder, right?

Well how long was he supposed to have lived? He was 73. A lot of people die well before that age. If he hadn't have gotten shot how long would he have lived?

If you shoot a guy after he jumps off a building (without a parachute and with nothing but pavement below him and with intent to kill himself) but before he hits the pavement and the coroner rules the death was caused by the bullet - its murder.
If you shoot a guy in his sleep with intent to kill him but it turns out he wasn't asleep but already dead when you shot him - its attempted murder.
(the crap I learn married to a lawyer).

You're talking about intent to kill and that's exactly why Hinckley was convicted. But Brady didn't die right after being shot and he wasn't already dead he went on to live another 33 years after being shot.
Do you not see the difference there?

If I inject you with HIV with intent to kill and you die 33 years later from AIDS - its murder. You know it is. Its murder that involves 33 years of torture before the grand finale.
This is no different.
