I'm not sure about being a workaholic but W was an early to rise kind of president that did not tolerate tardiness.

That is what happens when you elect someone that does not drink and is already married to IRL 10.

this is way off topic but it's also way too stupid to start its own thread. Is the president "allowed" to get drunk? Yes, I know this is a very stupid question, I apologize for that. If the prez wanted to get hammered one night before bed is that ok? I'm talking blackout, 3 sheets to the wind trashed. It seems like since he could have to wake up and make some big decision at any time it'd be frowned upon, but I don't know if there are any kind of general rules for that kinda thing.

Jimmy Carter gave the illusion of being one, he would hit the Oval at 6:30 AM every day, but later books written by his Secret Service agents said he would then sleep in the Oval until 8:00 Am. The press painted Reagan as a slacker for showing up at 8:30, but he would work until 9- 10 every night, Clinton, Bushs1 ad 2 kept similar schedules, their time was usually scheduled in 15 minute increment s over a 12 hour day. White house records of Obama's schedule show he rarely hit the oval before 10 Am and had fewer things on his daily schedule than probably any of the other recent presidents.

Practically speaking, who's going to stop him?

The answer is yes. See, e.g., JFK and Nixon.

Nixon used to get hammered. He'd get drunk and fly off the handle issuing orders and shite that Kissinger would literally have to countermand in the name of national security and not starting a war.

Clinton was like that. Obama was until he got the hang of it. George H W Bush was a hard worker. W and Reagan were vacationers.
