It is now a matter of record that several folks in the White House were there when he made the call and all thought the POTUS was exactly appropriate in his remarks.
Including Gen Kelly, who was among those present.

I didn't vote for Trump, but you're reaching if you think he was dismissive of the fallen soldier.

There is no way Trump or any past President would be disrespectful to the parents of a slain soldier. Anybody who believes he was insulting is truly a fool. The only scenario where this would be true would be if a parent was persistently, loud, and insulting to a President during the consolatory call or meeting. And even then an aide would politely break the contact.
