Can you explain why it's not good? Too far right?
It seems that that this has been our foreign policy for a while now.

I would say it is bad because it is actually liberal in a lot of important places such as foreign affairs and pro-big government (which ironically is considered "conservative") on others such as gay marriage.
It is a philosophy that is the embodiment of small government but only where it suits me.
They generally have economics down though, they just fail to carry through on a lot of their promises.

Yes, yes they do...spend like a drunken sailor...great economic policy....
They say that isn't their policy but that is the policy of ALL Elected officials because that is what ALL constituents want....they want their elected officials to take other people's money...not theirs, leave theirs alone...and hand it to them in the form of Pork.
I remember back in the day when ALL republicans were Neo-cons....ya'll loved you some W back in the day...in 2005 when the BRAC talks were going on Jimmy Carter argued against moving the submarine base from Groton Connecticut to Kings Bay Georgia in part because it would be a waste of money. The good neo-cons of Georgia roasted their native son for this idea...imagine the trechery of a SOB from Georgia suggesting that jobs not be moved from Connecticut to Georgia just because it would be a huge waste of taxpayers money....

This is it in a nutshell....

Because the Conservative movement, at least those in power, have done very little to actually limit the role of government.
They may take away an agency, or reduce it, but they'll increase another one in its place.
I'm not sure we've had a small government conservative in a significant position of power in my lifetime.
It's hard for a moderate to equate Republican = Small Government when the number of Republicans who get elected that actually adhere to this principle could be counted on one hand.

Too ambitious on the never ending war front. Just relax a little dude. Let others countries do their own thing. We don't have to be up in every third world dictators business. For example, why is Syria so important? Neocons are itching to go to war there.

I probably should have been more precise when I said economic policy. It is generally good that they limit taxes and regulations on businesses and allow the economy to grow.
They support free trade, which has been a good thing for our country.
I mean they inflated spending on stupid shite (like abstinence only sex ed) is stupid, but still better than most other ideologies.

No, at least not what this board is calling Neocons. It's the far left and far right that scares me

Well, this is what I was thinking.
From what I understand, it was a term invented by a socialist to describe "right-leaning" democrats.
So, by definition, I figured it was an ideology somewhere in the center, but now it seems the definition is describing a war mongering conservative.
Same goes with a populist, I guess, where in the Roman Empire, it simply meant someone trying to buck the status quo of the oligarchs.

It's actually a term that was used to describe the marriage of the religious right principles with many conservative fiscal positions and interventionist foreign policy. It wasn't invented by socialists and it never described right leaning democrats.

All the older generation conservatives that I know in my family are very much of the "That country doesn't bow and scrape to us? Bomb the shite out of em! That's what we should do, set em straight so they're terrified of us! On, what about country B? Bomb them too! We can do it! Country C? What we should do is go and drop a nuke right on their capital, they'll learn not to say bad things about America then! Country D? We should send the navy over there and blow up every city on the coast, and not say anything to them at all! They'll respect us and not say shite after that!"
This is said in 100% seriousness. Talking to people of the boomer generation makes me understand why John McCain stays in power; he is truly a representative of their beliefs.

Huh...?
quote:
Neoconservatism (commonly shortened to neocon) is a political movement born in the United States during the 1960s among conservative-leaning Democrats who became disenchanted with the party's foreign policy.[citation needed] Many of its adherents became politically famous during the Republican presidential administrations of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Neoconservatives peaked in influence during the administration of George W. Bush, when they played a major role in promoting and planning the 2003 invasion of Iraq.[1] Prominent neoconservatives in the George W. Bush administration included Paul Wolfowitz, Elliott Abrams, Richard Perle and Paul Bremer. Senior officials Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, while not identifying as neoconservatives, listened closely to neoconservative advisers regarding foreign policy, especially the defense of Israel and the promotion of democracy in the Middle East.
Wiki
Well, now I'm even more confused.

Just as an example Reagan was probably the first major neocon.

I'm not trying to argue with you here; but didn't you say earlier in the thread; that it was somewhat democratic?
Some guy called me that in FB because I was simply supporting our troops overseas. I don't want us to go to war; but I'll be damned if I'm not going to support our boys and girls who do.
Serious question.

A few days ago the Taliban in Afghanistan killed 140 Afghani soldiers. We invaded Afghanistan in 2001. Is it working?
