Come on, man? Field grade, baw?
Hopefully you got something better lined up. You didn't consider USNR as an option to nab a pension?

Whoa! I visit the cleaners once a week and don't pay nearly $600 mt. Even with the SO and all her clothes we spend maybe $200 a mt.

For the record, i want y'alls input because someone in another thread said 100% of middle class americans qualify for obamacare subsidies
They were arguing that like it is a good thing?
Who the frick is supposed to be paying for it?

family of 4 on 97k a year? that's about the definition of middle class. probably low-middle of the middle class if you're near a city people know by name

if they live in a average house - $600,000 --- they are struggling on 100k a year.
if they're making 100k a year they have no business buying a $600k house

$97k/year = ~$5600/month after taxes.
Mortgage to live in a good school system ~1500/month
Car insurance ~250/month
Utilities ~250/month
Food for four ~1000/month
Gas for cars ~150/month
Phones for four ~150/month
Internet ~75/month
Necessities (clothes, haircuts, etc) ~100/month
TV/Entertainment ~$100/month
Assuming both parents working...missing childcare. That eats up a big chunk of 2nd persons income.

A 600k house in the bay area is a 1000 square foot fixer upper.

I thought about that but left it out because for the majority of a family of 4's existence, childcare won't be needed. But you're right. Throw in an extra $1000 for it.

We've went from a country of "Mr Robinson makes good money I want to be like that".
To.. "mr Robinson makes good money wtf makes him so privileged, I hope the govt takes his fair share"

$1000 doesn't cut it.

Nah you can find less expensive, just not in San Fran.
Coworker just sold her place in Oakland for much less than that

Reminds me of the minimum wage debate.
$15/hour in San Francisco or New York is probably not going to be felt very much.
In Memphis or Oklahoma City....it will shut down businesses.

That's the salary if two teachers married each other. I'm gonna say right in the middle.

I don't have kids, but I would expect childcare to cost much more than that. Economic Policy Institute has averages around $5k/year for Alabama, which is one of 5 lowest in the nation. Roughly 10% of income in most states. *per child

I think politicians prey on people who are pissed about the situation they were born in.
Truth be told....I grew up ugly, nearly blind, and poor in a very small town in Louisiana. I somehow do pretty well for myself today. Part of that was because I wanted a little more out of life than a truck, a trailer, a boat, and a pair of white shrimp boots. I had some exposure to people who had advanced degrees and successful careers.

Further, in any respectable city, even the suburbs, $250,000 is about the minimum you'd pay to get into a good school system, which is something the middle class values.
