Where did they get the money?
Wow! One thing at a time. Well...let's take one thing at a time. It appears the money [or some of it] came from the Saudis? You know shakedown money. The Saudis tell Al Qaeda, leave us along...and we'll pay you some protection money. Money flows into Al Qaeda hands and there you go. So you're right....there is that money connection again.
So how in the world did we get into this mess? I would argue it's about Religion, Oil, and Conquest. For years we were told [by our Energy Department] that our domestic oil and gas reserves here in the United States was depleting and we could expect the imports from the middle east would [necessarily have to] increase drastically. Further, our dependency [or perceived dependency] on middle east oil would [and did] cause the United States to forge an "unholy" alliance with the Saudis. I would argue the "whacko environmentalist" movement here in the states, through their effort to block the search for domestic oil & gas, strengthened the Saudi position as our primary supplier of feedstock for our fossil fuel demands. It appears that is no longer the problem...since our domestic natural gas reseves [alone] exceed anything in world. Wow! What an interesting turn of events.
But let me not bore you with details. Bottom line....we now have a resurging Al Qaeda threatening to capture Baghdad. Make no mistake about it...whether we [or you] like it or not...we're going to get pulled into a really dirty regional confict. Ever hear of the domino effect? Assad in Syria is under assault, Libya is in chaos and the situation in Egypt is uncertain. Jordan's [an ally] position is tenuous at best. What about our ally Israel? You think for a moment we're going to abandon Israel? Is Israel going to let Israel be destroyed?
All this upheaval due [in part] because a shallow people elected a shallow President. Obama simply walked away, and gave the "green" light to Al Qaeda to resume their effort to "destroy the infidels". George W. Bush took the fight to the enemy on his own grounds, and had them on the ropes. Now thanks to "Pookie" the Jihadist are about to take the battle here to Ameria.
Overall I disagree with your theory that all this was caused by money. Americans tend to equate everyting [and the cause of everything] with money. This conflict is different. Basically this is a religious war. For the radical Islamic Jihadist(s)it's about conquest and the triumph of Islam. The absolute worse enemy to face is the religous zealot.
Have a good day TX Tiger.

It's not hard ... Bush's fault.

So how in the world did we get into this mess?

You seem to be fighting the wrong enemy.

When you start acting on intelligence rather than emotion, you'll see how silly your recent posts really are.

It's a good thing Americans will be viewed as liberators.
I really miss Dick Cheney. Has he been on Fox News lately?
