That's 52 years. Although I will admit that I have no idea of the political leanings of the people who first put that statue up.

Quite a large number of these statues were erected in the 20th Century. Calvin Coolidge would still be a Republican today, FDR a Democrat, LBJ a democrat... The parties haven't shifted much during this time. Democrats just do a better job at hiding their racism.

In some ways they still are especially in matters of race. They thought it was a good idea to house a whole bunch of poor blacks in housing projects with substandard schools that essentially created urban plantations wherein they were beholden to their white Masters in DC for housing and food and subsistance.

The black man still does the White Democrat's bidding especially at election time.
