MUH DEMOCRATS ARE THE REAL RACISTS AND KKKS AND IF THE 1860 ELECTION WAS TODAY I WOULD CERTAINLY VOTE FOR LINCOLN OVER THE 3 STATES RIGHTS CANDIDATES.

If you support your Confederate ancestors and then go on and on about how Lincoln was the party of your Republicans you are a moron.

The people who erected those monuments have nothing to do with today's Democrats, though.

I'm the biggest Trump backer and anti-left guy here, but come on. The parties shifted over the past 140 years. It's a red herring.

There's plenty of legitimate hypocrisies that we can bash the left for (support of Islam, support of late term abortion, etc).

I like the Nixon Southern strategy excuse. The parties totally flipped you guys yet somehow we still idolize FDR and Kennedy as our own

I love when people equate Civil War era democrats to democrats of today. It's hilariously ignorant. They aren't even close to the same party.

How is it misleading? Democrats are embarrassed by their history.

Aren't you being misleading? Saying that the Democrats that put up those statues were "Civil War era Democrats" is wrong and misleading.

It's misleading because the parties aren't even the same. They essentially flipped ideologies entirely. A Democrat in the 1860s was a conservative.

Okay my mistake. 20-30 years after the Civil War. That was unintentional, and in no way as misleading as pretending like Democrats back then were liberal.

FDR is bad for anybody to try to claim as their own.

The right hates him because of his economics.

The left hates him because of the concentration camps.

While I agree with you, the Democrats (left) has been butchering words and meanings for a long time to make their points and put their opponents on the defensive. I have no pity for them.

So what happened?

When did Democrats become Muslim apologist, and gay rights and Transgender activist?
