I've always said to people if you want to be angry on one of the happiest days of your life, go to the hospital and have a baby. Both of my kids were scheduled inductions. The first thing we did upon arriving at the hospital was cut a check for a not so insignificant sum before being admitted to the room. While there you get to see the 4-5 broke dick "families" (usually just single moms and "fathers" who are there only because some one made them show up) receiving the EXACT SAME LEVEL of care that your wife and child are getting. You then ask yourself: "what the frick am I paying for? I could get the same care for nothing" Then you realize, you aren't just paying for your wife and child. You're paying for theirs too.

Thats the problem with you progressives...the solution is always to be handled by someone higher up/smarter etc. You refuse to believe that YOU are responsible for YOUR lot in life. Poverty is the best motivator out there. Being hungry sucks...but it will motivate your arse. Progressive solutions remove the fire from people and keep them in a cycle of just getting by. As long as its someone else's fault, its not YOUR own fault.

Yep. The best way to get people moving is not by telling them to move, but instead, by setting the room on fire!

When you subsidize anything, you get more of it. That works for poverty, too, sadly.

One of my favorite examples is Katrina.

Smart folks got out of the way, stupid ones stayed, then bitched they didn't get enough help after it blew through.

I got a busy day today, but yes i see your point on how it could be abused or promote someone to live off govt. Asst.

However, i dont think we should strip the system entirely. A re-evaluation and honest conversation about it in congress could really help instead of "its a tax burden." and "you hate poor people." Convos we always get.

As a first hand example of your point, my wife is French/US citizen (dual citizen). Her mom and step dad live here in the US, but her aunt lives in France still, and she lost her job. The govt. asst. over there after you lose your job is so much she took it until it ran out because it paid better than her old job. Basically a mini paid vacation if you will. She's back it work now, but that just shocked me when i first heard it.

I don't think we will ever be able to have a perfect system, but that doesn't mean we throw it all out, imo. So long as people exist, there will be some who abuse the niceties of others. That's just the facts. The best thing to do is try to limit those people in a way that doesn't affect the people who really need it.

What's the solution? I don't have one off the top of my head. It's a complex issue.

Have a good day. Ill try to get back on tonight if i have time.
