Good point. But poverty is relative. Someone is always going to be at the bottom and more money in the system means everything is more expensive.
3D printing and what's following after may mean the end of finite resources. Want food, clothing, shelter? Print it out. Want a diamond-encrusted Rolex? Print that out, too. The OP was being hypothetical, but the possibility is more than hypothetical in the coming decades.
What happens when the means of keeping score since the dawn of humanity, ie, economic status, ceases to be relevant?

Global warming?
You're kidding right? You realize we just had one of the longest, coldest winters on record

Poverty is well on its way to being eradicated. In the past two decades, the amount of poverty in this world has diminished by MORE THAN HALF.

Mind blown.

In the end it's about a good life. It's about freedom, happiness and peace. Poverty is the major outlier in those. no poverty = no world hunger. no poverty = diminishment of cancer, racism, aids, envy, war, etc.
Cancer is awful. More than the other OP issues. But that is not the premise. Eliminate cancer, as we did smallpox, polio, etc., and the world's problems continue unabated. Meanwhile, people die of another cause.

World Hunger.
If you get rid of cancer something else will kill you.

quote:Seriously? Y'all get rid of religion before aids, global warming and racism? I'm an atheist and even I think that's absurd. I know everyone hates Muslims and all, but damn, religion is the only item on this list that makes life better for people. Aids, GW, and racism are all flat out negatives for virtually every person on the planet (and I know all the doubt/questioning on the whole global warming thing; but at the least, wound't it be nice to stop hearing about it?).
Cancer World hunger poverty religion aids global warming racism.
Bottom line, for all it's negatives, religion does offer meaning and purpose for billions of people who happen to need just that. It does not even belong on the same list as the rest of these. And the idea that y'all want it eradicated more than some of these other topics is frankly baffling.

World Hunger
Getting rid of cancer would be the beginning of the end for civilization.
Getting rid of World Hunger would probably have a similar effect.
